Readjusted /revamped expectations after one game

Gobert is still the man,but it was plain as day to see ...Favors and Burks ,both at 26 yrs old are back and highly motivated.

This makes us look at this Jazz team different and blah ,blah ,blah it's only one game BUT almost everyone was beating the drum to dump these guys as quick as they showed a pulse .They showed more than a pulse ,they showed scoring ability on a heavily loaded defense 1st team wondering where the scoring was going to come from. Anointing Rodney Hood as the guy to burst out as "the Man" and Gobert to make a major jump as the #1/#2 scoring option as well as the defensive player of the year candidate.

That might still be so about Hood and Gobert but a healthy Favors and Burks displayed and reminded us they have major game still to be played. The defense looks to be studly but my oh my can the offense be come just as good .

Everybody's expectations are probably adjusting after only one game.

I'm gonna give it 5 games before I start revamping anything. I had high expectations for Favors going in. He has long been one of my favorite Jazz players.

At the very least the emergence of Favors and Burks erases the urgent need of a breakout season for Hood. I mean IF Hood breaks out, we are in business, but we don't NEED him to effectively replace Hayward to progress.

It will be at least 10 games for me. Great win where we didn't look very good for about 3 quarters. As for Rodney, I have never believed he would be the main guy getting the points that Hill and Hay took with them. I doubt he is our high point man this year and if he is I think we will be on the outside looking in at the playoffs. I imagine he will have games where he is great and takes over but I don't see him as THE guy. Burks obviously wont do that every game but he will be a key cog for 2nd unit points.

He played 15 minutes in a game Hood only played 18. What happens when Hood actually plays?

I have always thought Burks could be a big contributor. I'm not saying he will be, but I am taking my moment on the top of the bandwagon to solidify my position as a burks homer. It has been been an emotional following for the last 2 years, so it's hard not to go over the top now

I'd still dump Burks if someone gave us back an expiring contract and a 2nd rounder.
I'm just curious, since you know your nba, if we traded hood would his new team be able to match any offers next summer or does that change when he is traded. Basically is he still a restricted free agent? Does the new team have bird rights?
I think the answer is yes but not sure.

lol Yes. Still RFA. His new team would control his rights.

The thing about Rodney is that when he is on, he's great, he can score at will. But that's all he contributes. When he's off, he's worthless. He's not a great defender or rebounder or passer. Burks too is streaky, but he's a great rebounder, and I think a better passer than Rodney. His defense, probably on a par. But we're not looking for Burks to be the man, just a guy who can come in, create his own shot, and put up points when the offense is struggling.

Burks has a skillset that nobody else on the team has, and something that we really lack if he is not available. To give him away for couch cushion change would be moronic. At the very least he should be taking time from jazzmen who aren't hustling back when Rubio is pushing the ball. I saw a lot of Rubio being way ahead of everyone else in pushing the ball. Quinn needs to fix that.

Hood isn't a bad defender and is certainly better than Burks on d.

AB seems to have turned a corner mentally and is really trying on defense too.

He only had one classic long AB 2. When guys are ducking under screens he is stepping back and making them pay. Also he is actually using the screens instead of going the other way and trying to beat his guy one on one... need to see it a few more times but was so happy to see him have success last game.

I've been a major Burks doubter, he plays selfish unsmart basketball, but I'm giving him a chance if he's making buckets. It's put up or shut up time for Alec.

I think I adjusted my expectations about the same time Mitchel found out he was starting.

Hood's anxiety or IBS or whatever it is. Good luck Rodney.

Yeah, I am in the camp of waiting a few more games. Let's see if a trend develops.

I thought Alec played a little more under control, and made an effort to play defense. It is just not his instinct. I am hopeful, but cautious because Quin likes certain types of players.
