Smart is a leader and more talented than trey. If he is BPA we need to take him and package trey with something else to fill other needs.

Why even look down that road when guys like Lowry and Ish are on the market? Trey's value "potential" will never be higher than right now & thus he needs to go. Asset accumulitation mode

I would be even happier if we swapped the Gordon/Randle part with Vonleh. This order for me between the 3, Vonleh, Gordon,...................>Randle.

Randle is not hungry enough tbh.

I like Vonleh as much or possibly more than Smart, but theres no way, in this scenario, that we get both. Hence the being realistic of Smart at 5 and Randle or Gordon at 8.

Locke generally says whatever the Jazz want him to:

1. Sounds like the Millers shot down Messina as he wouldn't be keen on doing the Jr. Jazz tour or having them in the locker room. So it's Griffin, Snyder or Boylen.
2. Smart being the pick corresponds to what Perrin said about Neto staying in Europe one more year. With Smart and Burke playing PG, there would be no PT for Raulzinho. Expect Trey to start with Marcus behind him until the trade deadline. Then the Jazz will look to move Burke.
3. They'll try to get Tomic to come over as the third big. If not, Marvin will be re-signed.
4. Look for the #23 and #35 to be dealt for a young veteran SF, possibly to start with Burks again coming off the bench as a 6th man.

If they are going with Smart at the 5th thus be morons NOT to trade Trey in some package to get another player or pick somewhere. Treys value would only drop of we kept him around with Smart as teams would know he's not in long term plans

I actually think Vonleh and Smart is pretty realistic. If we pick Vonleh at 5, and Smart is still on the board, I doubt Boston picks him up. We could probably pry away that pick from the Lakers for Kanter and Burke, and pick Smart if that is what we want.

I don't rember if it was last Thursday on 700 am or Friday on 1280 am, that Lindsey expressed some concerns about Trey. The question was something along the lines of 'who is going to lead this group?' And in the response Lindsey said the jazz had to talk with Trey and say, " look you keep putting it out there that you want to be a leader, well you can't just keep saying that and then not do the things a leader does, you need to act like a leader". There was more to it that I don't recall, but I found it peculiar that Lindsey was speaking critically of a player, when usually he is so over the top PC, praising the team, the players, or the coaches for anything he can. Even when Ty was not re-upped Lindsey spoke more like Ty was close friend who just died than a coach who just won 23 games.

Anyway The way Lindsey talked about Trey brought to my mind the idea that Trey had some issues with practice or team functions in some way enough that the Jazz felt like they had to correct it. I also remembered that Trey was Ty's guy.

Ty is interviewing in Sacramento, Does Sacramento need a pg?

This was a great argument. I'm still not convinced David Locke knows anything about basketball, but I enjoyed his passion behind his misguided opinions.

Don't think Locke has ever fronted as being a basketball expert. He has always presented himself as a super fan who enjoys statistical information.

Without trying to find it, the way I remember the story was DL going to Ty with the trade and TY enthusiastically endorsing it. I'm not sure that makes him Ty's guy. DL doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would give the coach whoever he wants if he felt there was a better player on the board. In any case, Trey was just a rookie. I don't know if he'll end up being the leader of this team, but it's tough for a rookie to come in and lead from the get go. We might see more of that this year and next. But you might be right. There could be some practice or off-court issues.

Again, Trey was a rookie and a young rookie. Guy would be a senior at Michigan this year. Perhaps DL was just trying to make Trey realize that you can talk about being a leader but until you act like one, no one is going to follow you. Besides the fact that there are very few rookies who lead their teams. It doesn't mean that he was doing anything wrong, it might just be that today many kids think being famous is leading people instead of really leading people by your example. Most leaders don't have to announce they are leaders, guys follow other players that they respect and that perform during the game. I think Trey has some leadership abilities but he has to show it by coming back each year improved and ready to be an example of how things need to be around Jazzland. He needs to set the culture of how things are going to get done. You can't talk your way into being a leader.

Locke has a lot of stats and even has strong points but he has a LOUD voice and cuts people off.

Lived in 7 NBA cities and I travel a lot and listen to sports talk radio whenever I can on the road. Like him or not, Locke is the best basketball analyst I have heard in a local market. He is opinionated and he does cut people off. But he is thorough and you often get new insights from his analysis. Glad to have him in Utah.

I have to disagree. Locke has always made up his mind and then finds stats and facts to prove his point. Classic examples were with AK, (this is definitely his year) and Miles (this will be his break out season), Kobe Bryant (several years ago stating that Kobe would see a massive decline due to all the minutes) Kobe went on to perform at a very high level that season and subsequent seasons.

Now, more than ever, he takes direction from management on what stance he takes. this is understandable since he works for them. the problem I have with it is that he takes direction from management and then goes out and tries to find stats to back it up. then he presents himself as a "stat nerd". there are liar, damn liars and there are statisticians. Additionally - he is a huge name dropper and acts like he's one of the boys whenever he is interviewing a player. total Bigd**K*r.
