Realistic expectations for Exum, our future star

I think right now there is only a single question mark about Exum. Does he have that competitive spark that elevates skilled players from solid starters to all-stars? I haven't seen him play before he was drafted by the Jazz, so I don't know anything about his bball personality outside of what we have all seen. But I don't recall a single all-star that played as passively as Exum in their rookie year. Kobe was around Exum's age when he entered the league, but he was as hungry then as he is now. Sure you can come up with a million excuses. "Kobe was more physically developed" or "Kobe is a unique player" or whatever. But you're either hungry or you aren't.

So is Exum burning on the inside because he's being kept on a short leash? Or is he perfectly happy being as passive as he's been while he develops? That is my one and only concern.

who remembers Kobe's first few years in the league ??? I remember a fast mouth with only flashes of what he would become.

Not true. Even on his first year, Kobe was aggressive. In fact, Kobe was selected to the all-star team when he was Exum's age.

I remember Horny absolutely schooling Kobe in the playoffs Kobe's rookie year in a 4-0 sweep for the Jazz.

correct, he flapped his gums and then got spanked. Kobe was 17 if i recall his rookie year ?? Either way i agree the only thing of note is whether Dante has the inner drive and burn. From what i know talking to a few people here who know him although he is a very down to earth polite kid he's very single minded and focussed. I have no doubts he'll be something very special a few years down the track. I'm just hoping either Burke gets traded or Quin revokes his the green light he seems to have.

He's no Zack Lavine. The Jazz are going to be super patient with Dante, but he's got three years to prove to the Jazz that he should have a huge contract. He has potential, but he has a long way to go before he could be a dependable starter little alone a star. I hope he gets there, but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't either.

Anyone notice how well he has played defense? I've noticed he's bothered a lot of players with his length. The kid is super raw but is still having flashes of shutting guys down. That's very exciting

Revisionist history at best.

This isn't tennis we're talking about here. And the posters before us are also talking about whether people could see something special with Kobe. I remember those years. Whatever it was, he had it.

That said, talking about, arguing, comparing, or referencing Exum with Kobe is ridiculous.
