What's new

Remember when Josh Howard was a good pick up?

Still plenty of season left. I think he was a good pick up. Of course he's been abysmal since returning from his injury, but if he gets back to what he was doing early on (energy, attacking the cup, crashing the offensive boards, etc) and does it for the 15-20 minutes he gets a game then this little stretch will be forgotten.

meh. I'm also starting to think it wasn't the smartest pickup. He's taking minutes from our young guys. Wonder how many minutes Burks would be getting if not for the Howard signing..

I think most people have figured out that Howard's relationship with The Jazz organization is a marraige of convenience. He's just a stop gap while Hayward and Burks get accustomed to playing every day; while he tries to show he has enough left in the tank for one more contract.

Even still, I think it's time for the relationship to end. Howard serves no purpose on a rebuilding franchise. The Jazz have a definite fan favorite in Burks that they've let linger on the bench long enough. Throw Burks out there every day and live with the results. You'll probably see a few breakdowns with Burks out there that you might not have seen with a veteran; but the net long term gain can only be positive.

NUMBERICA and I have said this at different times, but the Bulls have to be interested on some level. Even if they won't give up Jimmy Butler (who might become the SF-defender we need), there has to be a pick in it for us somewhere.

The problem with letting him go........ well, we have no SFs on the team.

Also, might as well get a pick for CJ while we are at it. Those are Burks's minutes.

What will you say when we get an asset out of it?

Good luck with that right now. Who would give us anything the way he is playing? Probably could get someone from the D League to play better. But if we got at least a 2nd rounder out it and do it quickly then I will admit not such a bad signing.

IMO before the injury, Howard had become a guy that could score in clutch and had offense when the rest of the team was lost. In certain games I felt he took the reins and became a leader, similar to (though not as incredible) the way Milsap has been able to push us over the top in a few games.

Since then, he has not been a productive player. Will he return to that? I don't know it's been about 3 weeks. I think he will. I hope he doesn't take as long as Raja Bell did to get back to his 'old self'. I also hope Corbin can reduce his PT until he returns to form.

That Lakers game was a peak he won't ever reach again.
I agree with the person who said to let Burks play. This guy can be a star.

I admit I bought into the Howard pickup. But lately he's been terrible, some of his misses have been not even close and as noted by Harpring NBA level talent shouldn't miss wide open shots that Howard misses. He also pulled it back when he had a fastbreak instead of being aggressive. Not a good sign. Gotta agree with people wanting to see less howard and more burks.

Hindsight being 20/20, I don't like the signing ... But then again, it's obviously much easier to say what we would have or have not done, after the fact.

He is amazingly bad on the fast break, about the worst that I have ever seen. He does not seem to realize that he can pass it to an open teammate on the fast break.

But guess what, who is the first sub off the bench? Ty just loves his vets.

I strongly suspect Howard is trying to play through an injury - either the quad is worse than he's letting on or something else is wrong.

This is the bad side of signing one year rentals who are auditioning for another contract. Howard is trying to prove he is healthy and in doing so is hurting the team.

Or, with his history or leg/knee injuries - it's also possible that the guy just might be done.

I agree with the injury thing. He is setting for jumpers and floater more and more often.
