Respect for Demarre Carroll

Stifle Tower

Punch Bowl Re-Filler
Well, you have to feel a little bad for the Jr. Jazzer's in Wyoming and parts of Idaho & Utah. After featuring the NBA slam dunk champion in Week 1 and young stud Derrick Favors in Week 2, Week 3 will showcase DeMarre Carroll. I'm sure more than a few youngsters will be saying, WHO?, when they attend Jazz camp.

Of course, growing up in small towns like Cokeville and Big Piney, most of the campers are probably happy just to escape chores for a couple of hours - no matter who wanders into town.

But kudos to Demarre for his community service. I hope he gets a bit of extra money for doing this.

In case anyone is wondering, here are the wonderful places DeMarre gets to visit:

just drove through several of those cities sunday for a family reunion:

Tremonton, Pocatello, Shelly, Malad. Saw signs for Logan and Soda Springs, but didn't do the 'scenic detour'.

Yeah, nobody cares, fine. As for Carroll, nice that he's doing it and good for the kids, but I don't much care personally. It's kind of mandated by the league that the players do community service, so they are doing their duty. We can only hope that it is a good experience for them and that they will be a bit more 'real' from it and get to know how normal people live their lives.

Carroll is a genius, he's obviously trying to win the heart of Ty and a starting position on the Jazz.

*sucks for him*

Whats the point of getting money for community service...?
MAybe I shouldn't have said "community service" as he's not out volunteering for a non-profit. Jazz clinics benefit the Utah Jazz. They're designed to foster loyalty to the team and increase TV viewership and merchandise sales. So in that sense, I hope the Jazz are allowed to pay him an extra stipend. After all, he's only signed to a non-guaranteed deal.

I'm a huge fan of DeMarre.

Hard worker, played hard every night, and accepted any role that was given to him. I have a lot of respect for the guy. He's not the best player, but he's a class act.

One of my favorits short stories is "Rock Springs" by Richard Ford - I suggest Demarre reads it so he can better appreciate his 2 and a half hours there.

As someone who grew up in Evanston Wyoming, I have to say I do appreciate the team reaching out to small communities , even if it is only the "scrubs" who make the trip. It was always really cool to meet actual Jazz players at the rec center once a year.
As for Rock Springs, you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Is there some sort of rivalry between Evanston and Rock Springs that I don't know about having spent very little time in Wyoming?

All started one infamous windy day (yeah almost every day is windy up there take your pick) when one side said the wind blew a prize sheep over to the other side and they had there way with said prize sheep. Of course the other side completely denied it saying a sheep that good looking could've never came from that side.

You don't even want to start in on the sheep STD outbreak that ensued which each side blaming the other for starting it.

must have been a heck of a wind seeing that they are 100 miles apart.......
not disagreeing with the 'having their way with it' though.

As for logan, let me say this slowly: You----are-----a-----small-----community

(i've been to all three places)

i just hope demarre can keep himself out of trouble. when people talk about the temptations and vices of the NBA life for young men, they're clearly talking about towns like kemmerer, wyoming and malad, idaho.

Lots of lonely sheep?

Maybe we should trade for Ronnie B. so he can show DeMarre how to build a pillow fort.
