Restaurants

Pan-seared chicken breast - $32
French onion soup - $24
Beef stew - $24

Other fancy-pants kind of stuff. The local smoked trout pate for $13 sounds pretty good for an appetizer. The spicy chipotle meatloaf for $28 sounds interesting.

Ain't for the faint of wallet that is for sure.
I'm willing to spend some money for good food but $24 for french onion soup? Oh goodness!

This. Considering I make the best french onion soup I've ever had (ok I copied someone's recipe but it's the bomb) and it costs like 8 bucks for a gallon or more it's awful hard to spend like that.

Went to UTOG today after work since I've been working in the Ogden area a lot.

First, I've lived in Utah all my life but I've mostly stayed in the Salt Lake Valley. I've never spent any time in Ogden. So I was surprised that the downtown area was as "downtown" as it was. Some dirty **** going on in Ogden, done by some dirty people. Where I parked there was a trash can overturned nearby and it had been full so its contents were strewn across the sidewalk. As I passed by the trash all over the sidewalk I then saw four well used pointe shoes (ballerina shoes) scattered about near the corner of the street. It was a bit creepy honestly.

UTOG beers were good. I only tried the UTOG Pale Ale and what they call The BEER. Both were beyond my expectations. Not anything groundbreaking, but very solid examples of their respective styles. The Pale Ale was lively and very clean and the BEER was probably the most refreshing beer I've ever had.

We got the Crispy Brussel Sprouts and they were very good but they needed some salt. We asked for salt and pepper and they were better when we added it.

I got the burger. It was a boring choice but their menu is on the small side and nothing else was doing it for me. Maybe I should mention that since I've been diagnosed with gout I have really avoided beef, so I had a bit of a craving for a good burger. I've been really good about avoiding beef and beer and a few of the other heavy hitters that contribute to gout symptoms. They made it sound very good. The patty was bland AF. Needed salt and more. They put lettuce, tomato, red onion, some orange colored sauce along with cheese, crispy onion (thin cut onion rings) and thick bacon that they criss cross so that you have to pull the burger apart and rearrange it so that you get close to the same amount every bite. I added my own salt and pepper, I added some of my fry sauce, I added more salt, I left about 1/3 of it after I gave up.

My wife got the ribs. She really liked them. I think they were fine, and fine in a way that applies to a non-rib/BBQ place making ribs. If we were in a highly regarded BBQ joint in Texas and that's what they gave us I would be extremely disappointed. For a Brewery in Ogden it was fine.

Their food is overpriced. My burger was $16.50. It came with fries. The half rack of Ribs was $18.50. The Brussel Sprouts were $13.75 if I remember right.

If I were to go back I'd eat ahead of time and just have beer.

A few months ago I found a great new Mexican place. La Casa Del Tamal is on 56th West and 2843 S. It isn't trying to be upscale but it doesn't have a cheap divey decor, either. The prices are pretty reasonable. I don't like tamales much so can't say anything about that but their Barria is some of the best I've had in the valley. The go-to for me seems like a boring option, I get the Chicken Enchiladas with Salsa Verde. You can get red salsa or mole, but I've only had the Salsa Verde. I actually get extra Salsa Verde because it is the most amazing sauce I think I've ever eaten. It's got some spice to it, but it's not super spicy. I don't know what the recipe is but it's absolutely amazing. I've also gotten the Camarones a la Diabla a few times and it's really good and spicy compared to most places I've been, I just hate making a mess of my hands pulling off the tails.

These are all pics I took.

Tails on shrimp in saucy food is a big pet peeve of mine. It would take the guy doing prep work 5 seconds to pop those tails. But it's enough for me that I just won't order it.

Thanks for this review. I have driven by a few times and wondered if it was any good. I'll have to give it a go.

This is another place that I have driven by and wondered about. Chopfuku It always seems busy. Finally got on line and looked at their menu and it isn't your typical Japanese/sushi restaurant.

Take this crap to the Pet Peeve thread! This is about restaurants, not pet peeves.
