Revisiting the Trey Burke trade

We got Trey, they got Giannis: Milwaukee with the clear win.
They got Jabari, Utah got Exum: advantage Milwaukee (for now).
Jazz chose Kanter instead of Knight, who Milwaukee traded for. Advantage?

They acquired 3 sharp shooters with Mayo, Bayless and Dudley that are still quite young.

They have emerging young players like Henson, Sanders and Wolters.

They developed Middleton that was an unknown playing in the D-League two seasons ago.

They have a good 6th man as Ilyasova and a tough veteran player as Pachulia.

They have two potential future All-stars in Jabari and Antetokounmpo.

This season seems like they will battle for a playoff spot.....how long did it take their rebuilding? One or two seasons?

To be fair, everyone outside of Philly in the Eastern Conference will be battling for a playoff spot. Unless Jabari turns into something really special (which isn't out of the realm of possibility) they are built exactly like a treadmill team.

Yep. I mean, they could probably be decent in the east, but I would rather root for a team that actually is trying for championships, not just to make the playoffs in the east. Jabari might be really good, but he also might be Cory Magette.

If the Jazz were in the Eastern Conference, they would currently be a 3 games out out of the 8th seed with their current record. And their current record would be better with a slew of home games against the dregs of the East. . .

I do like what they have done with Brandon Knight, however. It will be interesting to see how he handles the handing off of responsibilities to Glannis and Parker. He should be up for a contract next year and it will probably be a good one. Be interesting to see if the Bucks pay him then ask him to take more of a back seat. . .

Milwaukee has been yoyoing for YEARS.

'10-'11: missed the playoffs, traded draft rights to Jimmer for Tobias Harris, Udrih, Stephen Jackson and Livingston
'11-12: missed the playoffs, drafted Henson
'12-13: barely made the playoffs, drafted Giannis
'13'14: worst record in NBA, drafted Parker


I won't bother listing all the trades they made, but it's notable they basically got Knight for Bogut when the music finally stopped after a couple of years. But if you really look at it, it was NOT a 1-2 year rebuild. They've been rebuilding and rebuilding again for many, many seasons. Also remember barely making the playoffs in the EC isn't that difficult. Conservatively, I'd say their complete overhaul has been at least 3 years, with this being the 4th (beginning with the trade of Bogut and Jackson). They are now a .500 team, with some decent young talent.

Jazz are now in year 2, the complete rebuild beginning with the departure of Millsap, Jefferson, Foye, etc.
