What's new

rockets- Harden prime example why I'm worried about Parker.

I would have called Aldridge one of the most overrated players before this series, hard to say that now though.

Yup. Funny how everyone's on his jock after two good playoff games. Dude has probably the worst offensive efficiency of any 19+ ppg player, yet he's suddenly everyone's MVP?

I'd take Zach Randolph over LMA.

I've also never been a fan of Aldridge's game. Too many jumpshots for a big dude. He does have good touch, but that's not the most efficient way to play. He is feasting on a terrible Rockets D with awful defenders at the 4 spot. Smaller dudes trying to box him out too (D Howard is always leaving to help on those putbacks I'd assume)

I remember watching him play for Texas for those 2 years (I believe it was). He was humongous (compared to the other collegiate athletes) and still played the same way he does now (i.e. jump shooting). His favorite move was to post up on the baseline about 15 feet from the basket and shoot a turnaround fadeaway jumper, pretty much the most inefficient move ever.

So to re-iterate (?), OP doesnt want jabari cause he might turn out like harden.

Ya i hope jabari is never a perrenial all star, representing usa in the olympics, one of the best players at his position, and an all NBA guy by the time he is 25.

What a bust he would be!

Man, just watch this Houston series. I'd be horrified if my team had Harden on a max contract. He is that bad on defense.

I get that.... but i have watched every minute of both games and like i said before..... hardens defense is not why they are losing these games.... at least not the main reason.

If harden was shooting in the 40's percent from the field in this series then the rockets would be up 2-0.
Or if any of the bigs could stop aldridge.

Also, boozer. Horrible defender.
Jeffy. horrible defender.

On the right team with the right culture/coach. Adaquate defenders on teams with good defensive stats.

It would be pretty sweet if Jabari turned out to be as good as Harden. Now, whether that is worthy of a max contract or not is another story. I think most people agree Harden is a great player, but is he worth it at the max? #May be, #May be not

Parker is somewhere between Melo and Bennett. If you put all three of their NCAA Per 40 Stats side by side, you'd be hard pressed to tell them apart. Similar bodies, defense, tweenerism, etc.

Pretty much this. I've watched every minute of this series, and it has re-opened and deepened my heartbreak over Wes. He might become the next "Jeff Hornacek" of jazz lore (i.e. that guy we desperately need to replace, but for whatever reason, we can't).

Haven't you forgot, that Raja was just as good as Wes and we wouldn't miss him. I have never gotten over the stupidity of letting him go.

Vehemently disagree with this comparison.

I'm not here to defend Jabari's D but his problems are more tangible, its lateral quickness on the perimeter and lack of strength in the post mixed in with some confusion in P+R and some questionable effort. simply put Jabari gets beat by lesser players

Harden on the otherhand beats himself, hes not even paying attention most of the time and appears totally in his own world, a liability at any given moment.

https://vine.co/v/MnTZY1Pq11F <-- harden having a lapse last night during crunch time... wtf is he thinking, its almost like he doesn't have the attention span for defense

I was gonna post Harden's last defensive fail here but have seen this post before and found my effort worthless.

In it, Harden is on the offense in the last Blazers game which Blazers took it to 0-2, he dribbles with his ***, loses it, and does not react to it and instead bow his head down a little to show how sad he is feeling right there because he has turned it over. He is such an actor that he even acts when fails. Amazing shooter though.

In that video of Harden it looks like he gives a weak attempt to steal the ball every time a guy beats him. I think one of my favorite moments in that was the Rockets announcer saying something like 'Who's gonna go out and guard PJ Tucker?' as Tucker gets away from Harden. Tucker then drains the three and the announcer angrily says 'Looks like no one' Hahaha

Never believed in the Rockets. McHale is still an awful coach, Dwight knows whining better than winning, Harden has probably the worst defense in the NBA history amongst the star and superstar players(I can't even name a superstar without a lick of D like Harden), twin towers still don't work, Aşık has horrible hands, Lin continues to confirm he was overrated, Beverley exhausts himself to cover perimeter all by himself, their bench is weaker than it seems on the paper.

This team might be a good normal season team but far from being a decent play off team.

They needed to trade Aşık for a better defending backcourt player or two. They were too scared that Dwight would chicken out with injury so they kept him.

If harden has his normal offense on the two games so far, the rockets would be up 2-0.

imo his defense has not been the problem..... its been his horrible offense that has been the problem.

Dont think harden has been guarding aldridge much so far this series.

Harden is getting beat on defense and forcing Asik and Howard to play help defense leaving Aldridge open, so Harden is a big reason that Aldridge is scoring a lot of points in this series. When ever you have a player break down on defense it start to get guys rotating on defense and causes defensive mismatches and confusion. In my personal opinion Jabari's defense will make Kanter look like a defensive player of the year. Jabari was benched in about 5 games for playing bad defense by coach K. His lateral movement is terrible and I don't know why people think he will be able to play Small Forward, that's just not going to happen. He is basically an undersized PF that can score. The question is, does he give up more on defense than he can produce? Its about impossible to break down how many point a players is responsible on defense so the best way to determine a bad defensive player is by how many times they break down on defense compared to how points scored.

if we pick jabari parker and he 'only' becomes harden, then i'll be severely disappointed.

Sorry bro.

I watched every minute of those first two games... hardens defense had very little to do with aldridge amazing play.

Most of his buckets were against good defense. Aldridge simply was on fire.

But i agree that harden is a poor defender anyways

I wont.

Chances are that jabari wont be representing the usa on the olympic team, wont be on the all nba team by the time he is 24, wont be a guaranteed all star each year, and wont be considered one of the top 2 or 3 players at his position.

If jabari does achieve those accolades then i will definately be happy

1. Harden's defense isn't the primary reason they're struggling.

2. Jabari will be better than Harden anyway yo

don't let sexy regular stats and accolades fool you. harden is a very good player, but jabari parker's ceiling is much higher than harden. shoot for the stars!

i really believed in harden, but he is choking again and again in the playoffs. his game is hopeless to me. i hate it. too many damn iso. zero post moves.

if we get parker, we are getting all arounder who can do it all. parker won't be so limited. defense needs to improve. definitely.

Rag on Harden's defense all you want, but his offense is special. He is one of those rare guys that can readily get a shot and make it from anywhere. I would take him over any two, maybe 3 current Jazzmen. None of them will ever be as good as he is or even really very close. His defense can be coached/schemed around with complimentary players and good coaching. That cannot be said for our current players and their offense, you cannot make them into Hardens.
