Rodney Hood, a steal?

Is he a steal? It's waaaaayyyy to early to tell but I think it's exciting to see how well he is playing thus far. Like others have mentioned, his stroke is a thing of beauty and I love how he plays.

Does anyone know how he was in college in respect to his health?

Not sure about what health issues, if any, he might have had in college. If it was sporadic cases of diarrhea I wouldn't be greatly concerned.

Next challenge for him would be

1) Can he stay healthy?

2) Can he guard opposing star players at the wing spot? (i.e., Harden, Ellis, Klay)

I said it in an earlier thread, but offensively Hood kinda reminds me of Pail Pierce. He's just so smooth, and plays ball like an old man. What I mean by that is that he displays excellent use of hesitation moves (particularily on fast breaks and off screens). Great midrange game, and a very good outside shooter. He's not the post beast that Pierce is, but they really remind me of eachother for some reason.

What do you guys think?

Lol I don't think he's going to retire over a stomach virus. I mean if he had Chron's and had to have half of his intestines cut out, maybe.. But you all are tripping about him "staying healthy" like he's twisted his ankles or broke bones.. smh.. redneck Jazz fans.

What the **** are you talking about?

Plantar Fasciitis can be chronic and career ending.

I probably should've said in the DL era, as that is what I meant. And pointing out that the Jazz traded for Gobert is really... I mean, c'mon.
Fine. Semantics or not...the fact remains, the odds of getting players like Gobert or Hood in the 20s is very low. DL may have defied these odds in a small sample size (2 seasons) but in my opinion it would be irresponsible (and arrogant) to purposely trade down into the 20s based on the expectation that past successes can be easily duplicated. As a whole, the NBA draft is a roll of the dice anyway, I'd rather take the odds of getting a good player with a lottery pick over getting one with a late 1st round pick. That's all I'm saying...

Hood is definitely a major steal as of this point & appears to be one of DL's biggest successes during his tenure as GM (although obviously it's still too early to say for certain). Maybe not quite as much as Gobert, but Hood has really altered the direction of this rebuild. He seems like he will end up as, at worst, the perfect compliment to our wing rotation of Burks & Hayward. If he stays healthy & continues to progress at the rate in which he has, he may even end up as an acceptable starter alongside Exum, Hayward, Favors, & Gobert.

Personally, I still think that his ideal role is as our backup SF, alongside Burks at SG, on the 2nd unit, because his shooting compliments Burks' ability to drive & create very well. Even though he appears to have the potential to progress into a starting caliber player on a championship contending team, I think it is pivotal that we find one more potential borderline all-star caliber player to slot alongside Exum in our starting backcourt. If we are able to acquire that type of player, & Exum progresses into that caliber of a player, we could have a starting lineup with all-stars/borderline all-stars at every position, to go along with what could be one of the best benches in the league (if we are able to find the right type of players to fill in around Burks/Hood on our 2nd unit).

Exum/PG (pass first/acceptable defense & shooting)
SG/Burks/Millsap
Hayward/Hood/Ingles
Favors/stretch 4
Gobert/defensive C

Depending on who the starting SG (preferably one who is a great shooter, solid playmaker, & an above average defender) is & who the backup PG/stretch 4/backup C are, that roster could be a championship contender (for the next 5-10 years, given that we are able to retain the core members) with the versatility & balance of offense/defense necessary to eventually win an NBA title (or 2 or 3 . . .) some day.

plantar's fasciitis isn't an injury to be trifled with. Some injuries are far worse than others and have a greater likelihood of becoming chronic. I think it's fair to hold your breath with Rod's injury for a while longer. It's far from the review mirror, IMO.

Right now, he looks as good as any rookie taken in the early- to mid-twenties as I can remember seeing.

...We still need a better defender on the wings... Hopefully Millsap's offense can get more serviceable so he can be a specialist that doesn't require a ton of minutes.
