Rondo Trade?

If the Jazz clear out a Max contract slot by the 2019 offseason, who are the targets?
Klay Thompson, Jimmy Butler (player option that you can almost guarantee he opts out), Kristaps Porzingis (RFA who may force his way out, but all opportunities to pursue him should be pursued as he has been very publicly at odds with the Knicks [to the point that he's threatened taking the QO and walking in 2020 if they don't get their **** together]).

Also, Nikola Mirotic.

And how do the Jazz clear out a max slot? That pretty much means the Jazz let Favs, Hood and Exum walk this summer, essentially "tanking" another year. Mirotic is off the table, because even with him becoming a free agent, Jazz would still have his cap hold in place...unless they renounce him. So no reason to give up assets for him now.
Why does anyone think after last year that Favors is a necessary ingredient for this team's success? Why does anyone think Hood or Exum are either?

Not having those guys on the team is nowhere close to tanking. In the case of Favors, he's out the door, in the case of Hood and Exum, they're as likely to be cap-clogging role players (kinda bad salary) as they are to be net-positive assets.

I live in Louisville and grew up near the school Rondo played at before he transferred to Oak Hill. He’s a terrible locker room guy with a poor attitude. There’s no good reason to bring him into a team unless your top 2 point guards are hurt.

I don't see any of those players coming to the Jazz other than Nikola. Klay is not going to leave one of the best teams in NBA history. Jimmy Butler is a big market guy. Kristaps Porzingis......... Maybe, and I would love it.

I think though that DM and Rudy with the right pieces (which I believe we have many of) Is a winning combination. Rudy and Donovan are young. Rubio is still young. Dante is young. I'm not ready to submit to a rebuild. We have two possible HOF players and really talented role players. Future looks bright.

Klay is overshadowed and could reasonably seek another place. Not expecting it.

Is there a single thing that indicates to you that Jimmy Butler is a "big market guy"?

And you can't go after any of these guys with Rubio or any other go-nowhere salary.

So, go into 2019 with your foundation and a bunch of cap space and try like hell to make something happen. If it doesn't work, we're out, what, Hood? Exum? Worth the risk.

This was when he was younger of course, but Jimmy hates Utah. Knew some of his adopted family (he had a "brother" play for BYU)

He doesn't hate Utah. He comes here regularly to see his brother at byu. He was here this past summer right before he was traded to Minny.

Just what I heard from family. It's ok to not believe a random dude on the internet though.

Not saying I disagree with you. I don't think Favors will be back - and I think he's a bad fit next to Rudy. I'm meh on Hood. Let someone else suffer his inconsistency at $15m - or more. I've never been completely sold on Exum, but it's hard to give up on him without knowing if he's really progressed. HE could still be a very good starter.

How do Rudy and the rest respond to a front office that just sits on their hands and let's everyone leave without trading or signing for adequate replacements? Does the commitment to losing leave Rudy with a bad taste in his mouth as it did with Gordon? If 2019 is the target, I might say go all in on a rebuild. Strip the team down to just Donovan and future assets. Boston did an amazing job after shedding their big-3. The "Process" is yet to pan out for Philly, but still might.
