According to Hoopsrumors rookie scale options must be decided by Friday. These five players need decisions made: Key, Tay Henny, Brice, Cody and Collier. Any surprise declines?

I'd be very surprised. It feels like far too early to give up on Cody or Hendricks, and while Collier might not be a future starter, he's shown enough to pick up a late first contract, for sure.

I dare them to decline Cody's option. Its the right move imo. If they gonna play games with good players contract situations over cap space then let's keep that energy.

I would try to move him before declining to see if anyone valued him. I'd still play him and try to develop him... but is anyone offering him more than $6M next year?

Too early to give up on Cody?

The kid may very well be the worst player in the NBA. Literally. If there's anyone you should give up on, it's him.

The narrative that "The Jazz knew he was going to be a long term project when they picked him" is just damage control BS. Cody has been a disaster and now he's out of the rotation.

I don't feel bad for the kid. After this season, he's made $11 million for doing exactly nothing. He hit the jackpot.

I wouldn't feel bad for him, but I still definitely think it's way too early to give up. I think he can become a solid player, he's still 20 and certainly did show flashes during pre-season.

Guys who have good theoretical measureables usually get a longer lease even when they come out looking horrible. Without those measureables declining his option would be a forgone conclusion.

If they keep Cody I seriously hope he is doing something in the practice facility that is more impressive than the workout videos I've seen.

Speaking of rookie scale options, the Magic just declined Jett Howard’s. Has he been that bad? He’s been completely off my radar.

He hasn't been great whenever I've watched. He has gone from really bad to less bad, so maybe he was progressing enough that he gets another shot.

I think the main thing is he was drafted to be a shooter and hasn't shot well. He doesn't do much else.

That organization huffs paint. They have needed shooters since forever and appear to have two franchise dudes that aren’t awesome shooters and would benefit from space and what do the Magic do? Draft a shooting-cursed Anthony Black and a complete bum, each over Grady Dick.

Yeah, from memory I was very low on Jett Howard in that draft. I didn't think he was a first rounder. To be fair to Orlando though, the one thing he projected well on was shooting. I just went back and checked his drat profile and he had a projected NBA 3pt% of 38.4%.
