Roster Addition Wish List

The problem is we are kind of hand sitters... the message needs to be sent to DL not DM.

Not going to count the times we sat on our hands right now... it’s a lot. When we have made moves it was to appease a pending FA and bring in win now pieces or when guys have requested trades. Have only dabbled in FA with decent rotation players... picked up some very nice minimum guys and have drafted well but we err on the side of patience... and we have a lot of patience.
God damn it you’re right.

Then again, I could use some of my life back and through the diligence of the front office, by golly, I might get some back.

Maybe this is too bold, but, I'm still holding out for this magical Mirotic hindsight to flip again next year when we sign him for zero assets in free agency (or a better alternative, like Harris) and Grayson has grown into a solid contributor. I still think keeping the pick was the right move then, and I think hindsight will ultimately agree.

Can I add Joe Harris to the list? I was clamoring for him in as a last piece addition in the offseason as well. He got a little more money than I thought (2 years $16 million) but his numbers have been stellar. 13 ppg and 30-50 from the 3 point line on the year.

And keeping our first round pick over trading for Mirotic (who wanted to be here) haunts me in my dreams.

Want to be more haunted by Niko? So if we had Niko already we likely aren't looking at needing cap space this summer... so in a team friendly market you could use your MLE and get a guy like Harris.

Since we are saving space we couldn't really put multiyear offers out there without endangering that space.

And I like DL... I really do. I think he is a bit passive which is dangerous now that contracts are shorter and there is so much player movement. The world can change and move around you quickly. We have to be a bit more proactive... even if that means making a mistake or two... just try to avoid the fatal mistake.

It isn't that bold... I think we are strong contenders for his services next year. I hope Allen is good. The issue is... will we be afraid to pay Niko 4/100M... because that is what he gets if healthy and playing close to what he has been.

Are we afraid?

I mean, it's clear what he is doing. If it all pays off in the 2019 free agency class, this will all look like hand wringing.

Check out Randle's stat line from last night against OKC:

28 min 26 points
10/10 FG 100%
2/2 3pt 100%
4/4 ft 100%

8 rebounds
1 assist
1 steal
2 blocks

I agree, but if he misses? We keeping the powder dry again? We gonna end up with lots of dry powder waiting for the perfect addition to say yes.

Scared money don't make none. We have seen this similar patience we will make additions line of action before. I am on board with it right now... doesn't mean we couldn't have made some additional moves around the fringes. Doesn't mean we can make some short term moves now.

To be fair I thought we should have retained the pick and not done the Niko deal... in part because I didn't think they'd get a pick for him. I also think conserving space works now. I think I would have been a little more aggressive around the fringes this offseason, but we played well down the stretch so running it back wasn't stupid.

I just think he or Quin will have to make a tough call on some personnel moves... not sure Quin will bench guys if they are available. Hopefully Ricky gets good at shooting again soon.
