Roster Building From Here - FA and Summer of 2023

I doubt it. He has 4 years left on his deal and their entire core is all 24 or younger. This is where trusting the process starts to pay off.

Phil Johnson would have told you that is impossible to build a contending team with players all of the same age, especially younger guys. Eventually all of the younger guys are trying to establish themselves more than the "team identity." Kinda like Summer League writ large. If you have a mix of young and old, the player hierarchies are more easily established and players aren't stepping on one another. Think old school OKC and current Memphis.

I'm not sure I believe it, but Phil Johnson knew more about basketball than me.

meh they don't really impress me much
Lol… they add shooting and Chet plus whatever they do with the pick this year… they gonna be great. They have a bunch of young guys who will take a leap forward next year… already basically a .500 team.

Worked pretty good for the Warriors

Pretty much exactly as I saw it after the trade deadline move. I hope they wont force or overpay the star trade since there are implosions about to happen midseason as well and we are not in a huge hurry.

Gotta be smart with the choice and in spending the assets.

Vanvleet post ASB averaging 19-9 on 43/38 splits. His Total RAPTOR is the same as Lauri's this season. The crazy **** is that he's been kind of inefficient most of the year so to be putting up those advanced stats while doing so is crazy. Now Post ASB he's been more efficient with Poetl setting him quality screens.

If the goal is win as soon as possible he'd be a huge addition.

DFS has been struggling hard in Brooklyn. He may be a product of playing with a super-star. A guy who doesnt need the ball, but does need very clean looks. It creates an interesting buy low for a guy who was considered one of the better "pure" 3&D players in the NBA.

Could the Jazz trade Sexton for DFS + PHX 2023 1st? IF you can do that and sign FVV you can go into 2023/2024 with a rotation of:

FVV/THT
Ochai/Clarkson
DFS/Simone
Lauri
Kessler/KO

You'd also almost certainly package or move some combination of the 4 picks in 2023 for improved depth, moving up the draft, or moving out the draft into another draft.

I would say that trade makes sense for both teams as Utah needs wing defenders and Brooklyn needs some kind of PG prospect and they have an abundance of wing defenders.

With how good Lauri is now, the Jazz kind of have to be in win now mode.

I could see DA pulling off some magic and recreating the Boston Allen/KG trades. Steal Dame away from Portland and Derozan from the Bulls?

Dame
Ochai
Derozan
Lauri
Walker

That would be a super team.

No lol… come on lopo they ain’t giving a pick in that deal. Doubt they’d do it straight up.

This is a solid plan… other than the trade value portion it’s cool. We’d still need an absolute home run in the draft to become a contender.
