Roster Building From Here - FA and Summer of 2023

Pels are the weirdest team. They need to consolidate and build their team up around Zion but Zion's health is so flimsy they can't commit themselves to any one direction.

If someone gave me a Gobert/Mitchell package for Zion I'd probably move on.
Would you want the Jazz to offer such a deal?

This where my head is at, but I haven't worked out the details yet. I think you sign or trade for a wing and then draft a pg.
I think Dorian Finney Smith is a candidate. I'd check on OG if the price isn't bonkers. In FA the big fish we should consider:

Cam Johnson
FVV
Austin Reaves (a little short as a SF though... I'd sign him and figure it out)
Jerami Grant
Kuzma - Meh
Harrison Barnes... I know he's 30... he's still productive and I bet he has 3-4 good years left.
Grant Williams - though I don't there is much else there... kinda is who he is.

There are a bunch of other smaller names I'd consider... Shake Milton is having a good season, Naz Reid, Max Strus, etc.

Its weird... we have offloaded so much talent that we should have some real low hanging fruit for improvement... but I'm struggling to figure out the best path.

I really hope we can hang on to both Kessler and Ochai. At some point we're going to trade for a star, maybe even two stars eventually, and we're going to have to give up some young talent along with the draft picks.

I would definitely* move on

The reports about them being unhappy with how Sexton had performed or disappointed or whatever were weird. I'd like to see the fit too. I could see them moving him.
Outside of making a move now while they have cap space, the Jazz will have to have salaries to match any big deals they plan to make down the road. I think Sexton probably becomes part of that equation.

Love the guy, but I’m not sure he’s going to be in Utah for too long of a stretch.

Are the Pels ready to give up on Zion?
anyone who actually acknowedges his impact on the court when he plays already knows the answer is hell no they aint ready to give up on him.
They will eventually see him walk probably, and become the next Boogie Cousins . But they are never trading Zion and risk him being healthy for someone else.

Yuta Watanabe and Troy Brown, Jr. are a couple of guys that I think the Jazz should take a look at to fill out some wing depth this off-season.

Also, I have a feeling that DA is not opposed to making a run at Kyrie Irving, so that wouldn’t surprise me at all. Especially if JC leaves and frees up more cap space. I could easily see Ainge wanting to make a splash in free agency. Uncle Drew would definitely qualify.

If we are trading Walker its because we landed a STAR star.... so I'm not too worried. I like Ochai but if he is Norman Powell like then I'm not sure its the end of the world.

I'm also not convinced we are looking at big stars... think we might consolidate picks to move up this draft versus cash in for established stars. I don't think Ainge has a definite plan... I think he is just being opportunistic.
