Also, the Mitchell-Rubio bromance is still very much a thing with a nice shot at Jingles (heh):

Good find! Wasn't expecting to see a link to "El Pais" on JF. What surprises me the most is that he thinks he won't be joining the national team for the World Cup qualifying games. They're working on the new generation of talent and he doesn't want to disrupt any of that. He's always been very big on playing with the national team so this tells me that he's very excited about his NBA career right now and wants to focus on what he has here with the Jazz.

That is great, great news for Jazz fans. This will give Rubio an actual off-season so he can take a step back and work on his game.

Makes all the sense in the world for him too coming into a contract season.
 
Very curious to see Ricky next season. I'm caught between conflicting beliefs that I really like him as a player/dude, and that point guards who can't shoot are crippling in today's NBA. Not sure what I think about him as a long-term piece yet.

The only real hate on Ricky that I recall was his inability to be consistent from the outside. Post all-star break, he was phenomenal. If we Slick Rick rather than Bricky Ricky next season, I think we're good at PG for a while.

El Masnou base describes Mitchell. "It's not good to compare, but it reminds me of Dwayne Wade (the 36-year-old, three-time NBA winner with Miami and 12-times All-Star). He is a player with character, with a lot of offensive talent. There are few players with that character, able to score 21 points in a quarter against Houston in elimination match. You do not learn that, you have or you do not. "

It was the really bad turnovers I had issue with and at times he wasn't good defensively... those improved as well as his shooting throughout the season.

I refer to the different Ricky's as Rick Curry and Bricky Ricky.
 
Agree with Handlogten. I got down on Ricky early because of the stupid TO's. And it seemed like he was overrated as a defender.

Like HH said, two different players from beginning of season to 2nd half.And if an old guy like Ingles can improve his shooting so much over 3 years, there's no reason to think Rubio can't hit 3's at around 38%.

Joe Ingles is virtually without comparison, so not a good point of comparison.

Note I didn't say Rubio would be one of the best 3pt shooters in the league. The point is that even older players can improve their shooting. Ricky, by his own admission, had not had coaching staffs who really worked with him. I think he said last summer Quin had already given him more coaching than in his previous seasons combined. So the improvement we've seen is likely sustainable, maybe not quite at the 41% rate, but pretty close.

Note: I didn't say you did. I said you can't compare anyone to Joe Ingles.
 
He just might get there....if he can improve his outside shooting a tad bit more! When your left open as much as he is....you gotz to make those 15-17 foot shots!
 
Joe Ingles is a fine comparison. Both were roughly the same age upon arrival in Utah. Both were at breaking points in their careers.

Dude shot like 40% from 3 from January 1st on iirc.
 
From 3, Rubio shot 35.7% in January, 50% in February, 35.7% in March, and 54.2% in April.

He was 59 of 141 from three for 41.8% over the last 40 games.
