Rudy Gobert "Greatest Jazz Center of All Time" Countdown Thread

It's pretty much Gobert and Eaton at this point. Much love for Memo, but Gobert has passed him. Here's Eaton's accomplishments:

• NBA All-Star (1989)
• 2× NBA Defensive Player of the Year (1985, 1989)
• 3× NBA All-Defensive First Team (1985, 1986, 1989)
• 2× NBA All-Defensive Second Team (1987, 1988)
• 4× NBA blocks leader (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988)
• Most Blocks in a Season (456)
• Highest Career Average Blocked Shots Per Game (3.5)

On a side note, how in the hell is Eaton not in the HoF?

It's easy enough to see Gobert long since passed Eaton offensively. As far as Gobert, here's where we're at:

• All-NBA Second Team (2017)
• All-NBA Third Team (2019)
• 2× NBA Defensive Player of the Year (2018, 2019)
• 3× NBA All-Defensive First Team (2017–2019)
• NBA blocks leader (2017)

It's very close. If Rudy gets another DPOY, gains an AS berth and/or All-NBA again, does this put him even or possibly over Big Mark?
nah, Gobert has already surpassed Eaton with his two time all nba selections. it's a must-have when judging nba stars.

Gobert is #1. Eaton was a beast, but Gobert has been (and will continue to be) better overall and more important to this team. He’s easily passed him as the best center for the Jazz (and still piling on top of it.)

Gobert is the best of all time , then Eaton. Ostrichrag was the worst by leaps and bounds (was absolutely worthless) Honorable mention Handlogten.

Eaton's career best year was 9.7 pts / 11.3 rebs / 5.6 blks

The blocks are great, but that was more contingent on the era played.

This thread could've been shut down before last season. Gobert is the greatest center to ever play for this team.

Last season the league average 406 blocks/team. In the year Eaton had 5.6, it was 436 blocks/team. I don't think the era made that large of a difference.
In other words, he had more blocks by himself than the average team?

Ostertag was good for a long time, and great for a short time (maybe 2 seasons).
Eaton was very, very good for a long time, with brief period of greatness.
Gobert has been good, very good, great, and then... phenomenal.

I have not seen Eaton playing either live or video; i know it is hard to measure, but how many games he had during his career which were won by his extraordinary plays (mainly defense). A la similar to games by Ostertag and Foster against Lakers and Rockets during the 96/97 and 97/98 playoffs and Memo games against Rockets?

Neither of those guys were even close to the worst. Read the thread. Stuff has been quantified.

Sloan would always attack Greg. His purpose was to grab boards and block shots yet got dunked on and posterized constantly. If he was good we wouldn't have wanted seikaly. If only we had a decent center , we might have had a ring. many ostertag supporters on here but again he wasn't great and got paid .
