Rumor: Jazz want to - and can - acquire Milsap. May trade Favors in draft day deal.

I don't know, if I'm in media, and a guy in a sports organization, even if he contributes zero to the decision making arm, tells me he/she hears that they could be open to trading x player to facilitate free agent player signing with the team, even if it DOESN'T make sense, I'm reporting it.

Trying to substantiate said rumor is pretty dumb. So many things would never, ever be reported if that were the case, especially in the context of sports.
I think I stand on the side of maybe they shouldn't be reported then.

This type of tweet/report really brings nothing but agitation to the fans and possibly to the players involved. "Jazz want to and can", "Jazz might" then you come here and play it all innocent saying but no, you don't get it I didn't say they will do it, I said they might. Well duh! They might trade Gobert too, they might send away Hayward for peanuts and Gerald Wallace and the 33d pick, they might move the team to Seattle or might try to get AD. It's all pointless speculation if you don't have a concrete report/you think they indeed are seriously exploring that option.

I don't get how it's making "a mountain out of a molehill" when the information from your report made it to national news and it has been reported on series of respectable online sources about basketball and now half the NBA thinks Utah would really like to replace Favors with Millsap...

Unfortunately, we now live in a time where it's more about breaking a non-story via social media in order to get clicks and stay viable than it is actually being a credible news source. It's a vicious cycle and we the fans help perpetuate it. Jazz fans went crazy over DJ's report and even if it is/was bogus, he got what he needed out of it. But let's not single him out. 99% of reporters operate this way now. If we stopped buying into it, they'd have to change their tactics.

Do you not watch The Newsroom? Reporting on a rumor is not an innocuous and inconsequential action. I respect that Mr. Genessy believes the source to be reliable, but he should still try to get confirmation from a second source before reporting it. Favors is a real person with a real career and real emotions. Being subjected to unsubstantiated trade rumors time and time again when he's shown nothing but utmost loyalty to the club must be frustrating.

I stopped reading DJ's stuff a while ago and unfollowed him on Twitter because his Jazz game recaps started to take on the feel of some sort of stand up comedy audition. While some of the personal stuff he's reported on has been courageous, all I really want is a beat writer to report back to me on the goings on with my favorite NBA team. DJ tries to insert a lot of DJ into what should simply be him reporting on the Utah Jazz.

In short, I'm no fan, but even I think the poor guy is taking a beating in this thread.

This goes into a whole new topic but the problem I see is that the D News doesn't have a dedicated Jazz beat reporter twitter. I don't know if the @DJJazzyJody handle is a personal account used for work, or a professional type opinion handle like @tjonessltrib used for opinion AND reporting at times. It's certainly not the dedicated beat handle that @tribjazz is.

Becomes annoying to me because, and this isn't necessarily fault of the individual(s) behind the account, but back when Smith and the other guy I can't remember (when to law school in the northwest) were beat writers, we got SO much more information Jazz related. Oram made the account more of a blogger type and there has seemingly been a lot fewer tweets from Falk (missing entire road trips) that turned the Tribunes BEAT WRITER twitter dormant for long stretches of the Jazz season (have someone else use the account while he's off). Feels like cost cutting to me.

But anyway, this isn't even about the scope of the twitter account. I don't care for the @DJJazzyJody handle that much either because of the percentage of Jazz related information isn't 100%, though, as someone who in the broadest AND smallest sense of the word is a professional entertainer, I can relate to the issue of working the difference of being viewed for what I do versus who I am.

However, that part is irrelevant in the long run as this tweet was a beat reporter on the beat tweeting something pretty much any beat reporter would report while on the beat.

It is not the job of media to spare feelings. SLTrib is not a Jazz run medium. Favors played in the freakin' New York market, where players of his type are under trade rumor scrutiny 5 times a week.

Is it the media's job in Utah to ONLY disseminate information about the Jazz after it's been filtered by the Jazz?

(If I was supposed to read the above NOT at face value, then apologies)

Dude, I think Favors is a grown *** man. I think he can handle some rumors.

Look guys this is simple. Reporters take oath like hypocrat ic oath or something. They promise two things. Do not injure peoples with reporting and report only truth. Jennessy broke both commandments. Because he is on pot he has no integrity.
