Always been a big fan of him.
But that ship sailed. We should have treated him better.

...while the source might be real(hell, I'd bet it was real), I still hold that it's not necessary that the source was giving truthful information(might have had ulterior motives) because:
1. It didn't make any sense on about 10 different levels, as it has been discussed already
2. It's 1st of July and NOBODY is reporting about ANY interest by the Jazz for Millsap. Woj/Stein/etc. know the hour and place FAs are meeting with teams but not a single word about Jazz-Millsap connection. It was simply a smokescreen... whether from the Jazz or from another team or agents... I don't know.

Or the Jazz called Millsap's agent and his agent was like "Yo, Atl and Magic want to give us 20 million a year" and the Jazz decided that was too much to compete with. Maybe if Sap was only getting offered 15 per year the Jazz would do more ground work on Sap to gauge his interest. You don't really know what is going on behind the scenes.
True, we don't know, but I know we would have heard at least about some interest, especially when the initial report was that the Jazz believe they can get him. I really doubt anybody expected him to get any less than max in this market, where everybody is looking to spend. Even here we were discussing in another thread that he will get max or close to max. It was a common knowledge. I have no idea how people thought he will be getting any less, especially sources supposedly in-the-know enough to be giving such information.
Also, there might be some positive benefit in just keep up contact and letting a player know you like them
Maybe Sap completes his 4 year deal with whoever, is 33 and is looking for a new contract. DL hits him up, and that line of communication is still strong and Sap knows the Jazz still respect him.
