At least he can be the swimmer who lied about being robbed instead of the swimmer who isnt Michael Phelps.

He was also the only one of the 4 smart enough to get out while the getting was good.
 
I sort of wondered this a few days ago. I didn't have a reason not to believe their story as the crime down there is high but then again, he did seem a tiny bit off in his telling of the story and after that golfer made up the story about being kidnapped last year in Hawaii and other similar incidents, I couldn't help but wonder.
 
I never listened to his story when it happened, but listening to it today,its so obvious they were fake.

Lochte just stood up to a bunch of dudes while he had a gun to his head and said "whatever"?

You would think that people should know by now that there are cameras everywhere. It's harder to get away with false stories.

Yeah, when I first heard the story I believed it was true, but then I saw him describe it in an interview and something seemed wrong. Clearly a lot was wrong. They must have been super drunk. He should have kept his mouth shut.
 
The story was weird from the get go.

I'm from Brazil, also from Rio de Janeiro and even though I'm in São Paulo the last 10 years, one thing I know is if you get robbed anywhere in Brazil, you will lose everything that has value.

Get robbed but keep you wallet, cellphone and nice sneakers? Come on!

I have been robbed 7 times, 5 of them on my mission, 1 in São Paulo and the other in Rio. I believe I'm quite experienced in getting robbed and know how that goes.

What I don't get is why they let this whole get out of hand. Why not just say they had too much to drink and pay the problems they caused?
