As an east coaster I can objectively say that BYU hasn't been relevant since the 80's. Utah on the other hand has.
Screw the Utes, BSU will be a more fun rivalry anyways.

What? BYU fans are way more egotistical than Utah fans, even though they haven't done anything nationally in the last 25 years. "Quest for Perfection" anyone?
What games are BYU sticking to that they can't schedule Utah? Northern Iowa or Tulane?
I've avoided this thread up to this point because I think the OP is a fool, but I can't stand by any longer. I will always hate the Utes, but to be a BYU fan and to honestly say that BSU is going to be a better rivalry is just pure stupidity. If not for the Utah/BYU game, I probably wouldn't care to watch any of the season. Seriously. Hating Utah and 1-upping them is more fun than actually cheering for the Cougs.

If the Utes come in 6th place in the PAC 12 this could be possible. Right? Or will the seedings vs. bowl games change with the added teams to the PAC?
Utah fan here who hates that the rivalry might die. Would have been very interested and excited to see a Utah, TCU, BYU, Boise State Mountain West Conference turn BCS conference. But still freaking ecstatic about the PAC 12 games to come.

LOL. Your kidding right? Since when did BYU fans not have big heads. Hell you don't even have to ask Ute fans go to any school that has been in a conference with them since 84 it will pretty much be unanimous that BYU is the most pompous and big headed fan base in the conference (with the exception of that schools rival).

With Boise coming to the MWC, if Utah would have stayed put I don't think BYU would have EVER went independant. That's one hell of a conference right there. However, with BYU's main rival leaving for greener pastures ($$$$$$), BYU is almost forced to make the independant move. Their profile is simply too big to stay put after Utah made the jump. Also, BYU can't sit by and hope that the Big 12 will invite them and conform to BYU's Sunday play mandate because we certainly know that BYU won't budge on that (nor should they).
While I feel the EXACT same hate for BYU that Trout feels for Utah, I'm seriously rooting for BYU to make the jump to independant. It will make the rivalry easier to play and considering BYU could then play a BCS quality schedule every year, it would do wonders for the rivalry IMO.
As a Ute fan, it used to be that 50% of the fun was hoping for success and 50% was geared towards beating BYU. As Utah's program has improved, I'd say the numbers have shifted more towards Ute fans simply craving success, but BYU is still part of the equation.
I laugh when I hear one of the 2 fanbases insulting the other saying how their school is in their heads too much. It's Utah-BYU that's how it's supposed to be. If you're a Cougar fan and every little positive thing that happens to Utah doesn't bug the **** outta you, you're not doing it right. Same goes for Ute fans when it comes to BYU.
Hell, it ruins my day when Provo has nice weather.
Texas A&M is already starting to fight the current setup of the Big 12. They claim they were promised, by Texas, 20 million a year in revenue under the new television deal if they stayed in the Big 12. It is starting to come to light that no way will there be 20 million availble for aTm. Unfortunately aTm never got it in writing and now they are talking about running off to the SEC. That will put the "Big 12" down to 9 teams. They've got to fill at least the 10th slot if not the 11th and 12th.
I honestly wonder if we were separated at birth. (me, of course, going to the smart family, and you going to the homeless shelter)

I didn't read the last page of this thread, but screw the Utes. I could care less if they joined the NFL tomorrow. I'm sure this thread has been filled with details about how I have a Pac-12 complex, but that won't really affect me as a fan sadly.
