Shootout In Ogden

One of my old high school buddies who I grew up with was one of the officers shot. Prayers and thoughts with all families and to those affected.

This is sad and I feel completely unnecessary. A man who the article says had a "limited criminal history" (whatever the hell that means) was assaulted in his home as part of the war on drugs. What I'm willing to assume were fine and honorable police officers were put in a dangerous position and one of them died on the scene while 5 others were injured.

Drugs use is harmful, so to some that justifies events like this. To me it doesn't even come close.

Gotta agree with GF on this one. Unless that guy was an imminent danger to the people around him, neighbors, etc. then this is just not worth anything near the price paid.

I don't think we really have enough info here to be judging the intentions of the police here. For all we know at this point the guy could have been a major operator in the area, selling/using kids, etc etc etc. I will say that the price to arrest the guy was wayyyy to high. But it sounds to me like he had a AK and was willing to use it on cops... so prolly a good thing they got him off the street.

So you guys are defending a guy that just killed an officer and shot 5 others? Some people just amaze me and make me sick. If you say he wasn't do anything how in the hell do you know? Hell he could have sold your kid something that kills them.... You have no clue as there are no details so don't assume **** and STFU with the baseless comments.

This was a terrible tragedy. I feel awful for the kids that will have to grow up without a father. Just terrible.

Full disclosure- I actually thought about being a cop at one point. I decided I did not want to put my own safety on the line every day. Events like this are the extreme, but I don't even want to be the one responsible for jumping in the middle of a barfight or anything like that either. So to any cops reading this, first off you don't get paid anything close to what you deserve, and second off thank you from some who actually understands what you do and fully admits he doesn't have the sack to do it himself.

Having said all of that, we really need to legalize drugs. There are plenty of unsolved murders, home invasions, rapes, thefts, etc. It's not like the cops would be out of a job if drugs were legal. There would be plenty of "better" things for them to worry about. If drugs were legal, the only one out of a "job" would have been the nutjob who just shot all those cops. Or he may have even been a productive member of society if his illegal career was obsolete.

Legalize drugs already. If losers want to destroy themselves, let them. If they do something illegal while they're high or to get more drugs, then arrest them for that. It's not like nobody uses drugs now. If the cops weren't forced to worry about drug dealers, they'd have more resources to target drug users who commit crimes. And if drug use itself wasn't a crime, there would be plenty of room in jail for real criminals.

I really don't see a downside here. It's time we put some common sense into our laws. A legitimate business is illegal, forcing people to become career criminals in order to tap into this lucrative market. Lots of law enforcement resources are wasted tracking these career criminals down. And lots of resources and jail space are spent on the users of this product.

Legalize it, regulate it, tax it, and use the extra resources to stop real crime.

Didn't see anyone defending the guy. Please be more specific.

As far as the bold, YOU have no clue as there are no details so don't assume **** and STFU with the baseless comments. Guy.

Lets just give props to the officers for doing their job. It is sad that there are so many individuals that choose a life of destruction and misery loves company so they try to take down the lives of others.

Yes. Until evidence comes out that says otherwise. I know, I know, American justice is crazy.

For all we know this guy woke from a deep sleep by someone knocking his door in, was disoriented and scared for his life, so he went for a rifle and shot when he saw a bunch of people rushing him. It's a common problem with those stupid no knock warrants served at 3 in the morning. There are people sitting in prison for assault on an officer because their first response when being woken up by strange men was to punch and kick.

For all I know this guy is completely innocent based on his mental state of mind at the time and completely regretful for doing something he would have never intended to do. How would you like to wake up to the realization that you just shot and killed someone out of what you perceived as self defense?
