Shorter Game, More Commercials

If they were really worried about the players health as they claim they could drop preseason games. That's 8 games.

82 might sound like a lot but it's really not. Take a physical job like a hod tender. I'd say 250 8 hour days.

Further evidence would be the workout and training that NBA players do. If they don't they get out of shape. Pretty hard to argue that the season is too long if you have to workout on your off time to keep from getting fat imo.

OK, but I didn't say that it was too hard on players, though I believe it might indeed help to increase the intensity of the games if they played a little bit less games. But what I meant was that 82 regular games make some games just so ordinary or irrelevant. It kinda decreases the weight of the games.

I know you didn't but that reason is often cited. To me having a poor team is the only thing that makes the games ordinary abd irrelevant. When you are in the playoff hunt every game matters.

It's sad how much of this **** is just cash driven. We need to play less games. We should also play more than 1 game in a city at a time on the road, like baseball. We go to Houston and play 2 games in 4 days, that would be pretty cool. Then we are done playing at Houston.

Would also like to see an emphasis on Division schedules where we play our division more than any other team in our conference. It would make for much more fun rivalry games like Football has.

Also, the shorter length in games just benefits teams that are super-star driven. It would hurt smaller markets who are developing deep teams.

If you want to speed the game up from 3 hours to just over 2.
Make the foul limit 5 instead of 6.
Offer a challenge on plays and fouls similar to the NFL. The challenges should be limited to 2 per game.
I heard something about making the foul shots count as 1 shot. If you get fouled on a 3 point shot your 1 free throw counts for 3 points. 2 point fouls count as 2 and so on.
Commercials should be limited to 2 per timeout. Commercials would be more effective since people would just watch them vs changing the channel to avoid up to 3 minutes of them.
Halftimes seem to last 20 plus minutes every game. That needs to be fixed.
Also officials need to be held accountable for their calls. There needs to be stats on officials. They need to stop the special treatment of Lebron's and Kobe's. The bogus calls easily add extra time to the game. Just watch a game of teams with and without stars and notice the difference in how long the games last.
I like and agree with a bunch of your guys ideas.

How are challenges going to speed up the game?

Speed up the game = Allow hand checking on the perimeter again and call less fouls.

Implement the college rule where you have to make the 1st FT to take the 2nd until the fouls reach a certain number per quarter.

The way I see it, if the refs know that they can have bad calls challenged they might not make terrible calls and get away with it. Also they would only be allowed on a dead ball or with a timeout. I still can't understand that the NBA doesn't have it.

I guess the makes more sense. I know the NBA is now implementing reviews on shot clock stuff, like the one Hood made last game, through officials watching the game via broadcast in a HQ, which is a great idea instead of having to stop the game and have refs looks at it.

Also, what happened to the NBA not calling that ****ty rip through move CP3 kept on doing to Exum? That is the most BS way to draw a foul.

That will create more fouls, not fewer. Now you have a much better chance for the other team to come away with no points. I say give them one point and a free throw attempt to get another. De-incentivize fouling.

This would sure create a strange stat keeping issue. Guys would get credit for scoring points when they didn't even take a shot. Free throw percentages would automatically go up for everybody, but especially for the worst shooters.

These proposals make me realize that I do not hate free throws nearly as much as most of you. I see them as an important part of the end-game strategy. I would prefer that a team who is getting beat down the stretch has a way to tighten things up and keep pressure on the other team. If it weren't for the ability to foul in this situation a lot of games would end less dramatically.
