What exactly do people think moving to the 2 would fix?

billybillybilly, i think you know what the idea here is. Just go along with for the grins, o.k.?

Everyone knows, that say a Quarterback playing out of position, as say a running back would not help his performance at all if you moved him back to Quarterback. After all football is just football and it makes no
difference what position you play. Right.

I don't see what skill he has that is being compromised by playing 3's.

When he drives, he gets all the way into the lane, and frequently under the basket. It's the tall people standing there that are causing the problems, not the 3 he just beat. I don't recall Hayward ever having a stop and pop game, so I don't see how he's going to suddenly get one just because the guy in front of him is shorter. He doesn't get great separation on his shot, anyway, and ironically playing 3's should help him more than 2's in that regard. 2's tend to play crowding defense whereas 3's are more inclined to back off, stop the drive, and use their length on jumpshots.

If Hayward is going to improve, he's going to need to come off screens ready to shoot. He's obviously going to have to go up at the basket. He's going to need to start shooting runners in the lane which he doesn't currently do. His position has little to do with any of this.

If Burks is a two and we think he is part of our future then Hayward needs to play the 3. It will be a struggle this year but needs the experience at the 3.

Hayward (or Haywood according to the majority of the announcers in the NBA) is capable of playing the 3. In fact, he consistently beats his man to the rim (and then he usually passes). He needs to be more agressive on offense, no matter the position he is playing on the court. He needs more confidence, and he needs to follow through on his shot. I've noticed his arm has been stopping a bit short when shooting, his release looks off compared with last year.

Agree. Definitely beleive people are being shortsighted on this subject. We are not winning a championship this year. Play Hayward at the 3 even with the struggles. Howard and Miles will be unrestricted free agents after this year. Still have Bell and Burks at the 2.

Hey billy, how about because him playing the 3 isn't working very good.
So lets try putting him at the 2. Maybe it works, and maybe it doesn't but at least it better than trying something isn't working (hayward at the 3) over and over.
Plus i always see you posting about corbin playing bell less so moving hayward to the 2 would help play bell less..... Seems like you would be all over this proposal.

Good SF's have a good post game or back the basket game. Guys like Wallace, Lebron, Granger, Marion, Pierce, Battier, Carmelo, Deng....etc......heck even AK

Hayward doesn't posses that back to the basket type of game that is essential for a SF to succeed. Hayward is a slasher and a shooter. That's his game. His skills point to being a SG.

I think he is playing out of position to accommodate Raja and that sucks.

billybillybilly, Can't disagree with one word.

Don't misunderstand, I have no problem putting Hayward at the 2 and I think we should try everything to get him going. Who knows, maybe length really does mess up his confidence and just playing against a smaller dude will trigger his aggression. I'm just doubtful that it will work. As for Bell, only the loss of a limb could change Ty's mind.

I really hope bell is out tonight.... maybe if he misses the game and the jazz play great and win then maybe ty will stop playing him so much.

By the way Billy, i hope it didn't seem like i was talking trash to you in my earlier post.... I really like your insight (especially in the gameday threads) and enjoy your opinion.

While I think Hayward should ultimately end up as a SG (because I think that's the position he matches up better at defensively), he's getting many of the same opportunities at the 3 that he did at a 2 last year. Position doesn't matter in his case. The difference is he's not playing with confidence and he's missing open shots.

While Hayward's drastic decline has been a huge disappointment, I mentioned in the fall it would be unrealistic to expect him to shoot as well as he did in the last month of the 2010-11 season. Didn't expect the dropoff to be this extreme but you knew that performance just couldn't keep up.

Big thing now is confidence. Similar to the way he played at the start of the 2010-11 season - the kid has no confidence in his ability and you can't shoot relaxed or make basketball plays when you're overthinking everything. I heard Horny and the staff have recently been pressing him to shoot, so now it's almost like he's shooting out of desperation. One of these nights (hopefully sooner rather than later) it will start to click for Hayward and then he'll be the solid 12-14 point playmaking wing we hoped he would be. Player progession isn't always linear, just something he needs to work himself out of offensively - but he really needs to focus on the defensive end and not let missed shots affect his play at that end.
