Simone Fontecchio Appreciation Thread

i knew he'd be a good offensive player from what i'd seen in Europe, and that he could put the ball on the floor as well as shoot, and I wasn't too fussed at his first poor year adapting to the NBA. But defn shocked at his defense and athleticism. Defn a keeper

This dude was a great find. I knew he will come around. The longer he is with the team, and the more stable+ team oriented basketball we get going, the better it will be. Lots of question marks in the team, but he shall not be traded. They should extend him as soon as possible for a team friendly contract

He was one I really wanted to hold onto. Contenders need these kinds of players, just solid, plays D, can shoot, and occasionally go off, multipositional. Gonna miss him.
I suspect he'll re-sign for a relatively low amount too. If he gets a big offer then it will have made more sense to trade him, but I am guessing that won't happen.

I'd love to see a pie-chart of your posts mentioning Simone pre-trade, divided into positive and negative posts.

Do we really need to see it though? I think everyone who reads even a portion of the threads know what that chart would look like. Tremendous downside is nothing if not consistent. Too bad too. He knows a lot about the game from what I gather. Just a glass half empty ( and possibly poisoned) type of guy.

I think he is just a Lauri Markannen fan rather than a jazz fan. Joined this forum in Oct of 2022. I don't think that's a coincidence

Btw, it's Markkanen. With double k, not with double n.

Sorry, I had to, bc I still see it spelled incorrectly every day.
I will try to spell it right
At least I'm getting closer. I went from Markennan to Markannen. One day I will get it right. Or just stick to Lauri lol.

Was looking around at (esp. +/-, 2-man lineup) numbers yesterday for the team since they started winning. Amazing how important Fontecchio (along with Markkanen, Dunn) were in the winning (to the extent that raw +/- numbers tell us anything). Just having someone who plays the role well, is in the right spots, doesn't make mistakes, and doesn't compromise the defense seems to be so important, even if he doesn't put up big counting stats. He seems to have been the biggest key to helping unlock Sexton's success, for example. He's going to be missed until Hardy comes up with some more black magic to make a bunch of odd pieces fit together well.

Fun fact, if you put any stock at all in raw +/- numbers:

December 13 was when we turned the season around and started winning games. Before that date there was a clear top five players in +/- on the team (per 100 possessions; excluding the garbage time crew: Samanic/Sensabaugh/Hendricks) with a big gap before the #6 player. The same pattern holds since December 13 (five players clearly leading, with a big gap before #6).

Those lists of the top five players are not completely identical before and since December 13, but three of those players are on both lists: Dunn, Markkanen, THT.
