What's new

Simone Fontecchio Two-year deal

I for one am excited to see Jared Butler take on a bigger role. I think there is something there just beneath the surface that he will tap into and we will get better performance than any of us expected. It always felt like he was just a few minutes or a few games from some kind of break out last year, but he just didn't get the shot, I really want to see him with 25+ MPG this year and see what he can do.

Yeah I feel that way as well. From the post game interview yesterday, although he was known for his scoring at Baylor he feels his biggest strength is as a facilitator. Also said he needs to raise his defensive intensity. Love his candor! He’s like the Angelic version of Mitchell IMO.

The shooting being terrible is so confusing to me. It gives me hope that there is something weird/fluky to it because he shot so well in college. I will die on Butler Island if I must.

I really think he just never got into a rhythm and the coach pulling him the second he misses a shot or makes any mistake will kill your confidence. I think he does a lot better this year.

It's not the shooting for me, it is more likely to come than not with time. Especially if they are catch and shoot opportunities.

My biggest worry is the lack of seperation. I thought that overdribbling was a simple fixable issue that needed to be outgrown. Now, I think he is busting out moves for 6-7 seconds just to create an advantage because he can't break down defenses consistently. It really hampers his potential and limits him to be a secondary ball-handler off the bench and that's not very alluring.

It was bad in summer league... but last year in real NBA games he got so much separation... so I'm actually not too worried on that end.

It seemed to me when the ball was in his hands the ball just stuck and then when the shot clock was running down he or someone else foists up a difficult shot. I saw this when he played in a couple of GLeague games last year and in those games he was awful and the Stars got boat raced.

This guy's idol is none other than JIngles.
I read an article (not going to find it now) that the "idol" thing is a misnomer.

Rather it was something like Italy was playing Australia, and Fontecchio got asked who he admired on Australia's team. So he said Ingles, and then some other news organization ran with it and eventually the term "idol" started to appear with the story, though Fontecchio was clear later that Ingles is definitely not an idol for him.

He’s just not that tall and can’t jump over the top of people like Spida can (ever notice the elevation on his jumper?). So in that respect, the adjustment to the pro game has been problematic for him. I think that both he and the organization realize now that his natural NBA position is the one. He is a very good passer and assist man and alluded to that role being a strength in yesterday’s post game interview.
