You must not have watched Embiid play.
I did. He has a ton of potential and could be an elite player. But he is not a once-in-a-decade player right now. In the last 20 or so years, there have been how many, three? Anthony Davis, Lebron, and probably Shaq. Even Duncan, as good as he was in college and despite being the first pick, had questions. His motor and fire and ability to win big games against strong competition were concerns.
This doesn't mean Embiid doesn't have elite potential. It just means he's not THAT special right now. Hence why Wiggins, or Parker to a lesser degree, could go ahead of him.
