The longest tenured Jazzman might be a Laker. Perish the thought.
According to Sean Deveney of Sporting News, the Los Angeles Lakers may end up targeting Derrick Favors in the upcoming free agency period, especially if their plans to reel in New Orleans Pelicans star forward/center Anthony Davis fall through.
Deveney didn’t go into much detail on his source or the likelihood, writing just one small paragraph on the matter among plenty of other options the Lakers may consider.
“Another guy who, according to sources, the Lakers have an interest in is big man Derrick Favors. The Jazz have a team option on Favors that must be exercised by July 6 or he will be a free agent.”
As is written in the Sporting News article, the Utah Jazz will have the chance to exercise a $16 million team option on the 27-year old by July 6. The free agency period officially begins July 1 at 12 a.m. ET.
Favors is currently the longest tenured Jazz player on the roster, having spent 8 full seasons in Utah along with 22 games of his rookie season in 2010-11. He ranks fourth in career rebounds in franchise history, seventh in blocks and is in the top ten for several other major categories including win shares and games played in a Jazz uniform.
