Sleeper pick and Moe special

Iman Shumpert is the type of guy who KOC will fall in love with at these workouts. If we keep one of the lotto picks and trade down with the other (and getting a proven player back) I can see us scooping Shumpert. All of this assuming we don't draft Knight or Kemba first.

For those not familiar, Shumpert is a 6-4 athletic point guard. He chose GT over UNC and Marquette out of high school mostly because he was sold on being a point guard if he were to want to reach the NBA. His numbers were never good and he looked bad, but a lot of that is on Hewitt in my opinion.

Unlike Westbrook, who is similar in size and athletcism (westbrook is more athletic, but not much more), Shumpert does have natural PG feel. He still needs polish for sure in that dept, but he is an excellent defender which would be huge for us at that position.

He just about had a quadruple double last year against Va Tech, iirc. He was a couple steals short.

I'm certainly not sold, but not a bad thought ... great defensive player.

You would build the crappiest chucker teams in the world. You would want Marshon Brooks, CJ Miles, and Iman Shumpert ON THE SAME TEAM? Who else is going to be able to take shots?

Let's not forget that Shumpert is the primary culprit in Favors not getting any ****ing opportunities the one year he wasted at that school. Garbage.

LOL... Not quite. It's either Shumpert or Marshon with that later pick. Also, I don't expect either to be a major factor. Just someone to bring off the bench and develop. Shumpert cannot be categorized as a chucker. That's unfair. He doesn't have good shooting numbers, but surely won't be shooting in volume when he gets into the NBA. He will be primarily a defender and ball handler who can get into the lane and create. That's what we need. Earl Watson would've done the trick off the bench 8 years ago - but he's too old now.

Like I said, everything at Tech should be blamed on Hewitt.

Agreeing with Chi on the Hewitt comments. I have seriously never seen so little done with so much talent (a lot of talent over his tenure) than his job at GT. Okay, he MAY not be #1, but it's damn close.

Hewitt is indeed a joke, but the ball is in the player's hand at the end of the day, and as a PG, you probably won't get in trouble for getting your elite-level recruit involved. You know... at all. Ever.

^ Respect that, but look at (i.e.) Rondo. Tubby Smith DID NOT let the guy play and he was labeled because of it ..

Please don't get this twisted, as I am as big of a Favors fan as there is and couldn't be happier he is on our time. But he was still getting his feet under him that season at GT. He traveled almost every other time he got the ball in the games I saw. I think Shumpert could've been much better just deferring to him and Gani but the results weren't that great.

Shumpert would be a major gamble because of how much polish he has left, but you can't deny his size/athleticism and defensive ability for that position. We need a guy like that.

Do we really want PGs on our team who refused to get the ball into Favors in college? If these points were incapable of passing the ball in college, why would they in the NBA?

Bumping this thread... I have a hunch Iman is going to be taken pretty early tonight. If we end up with Kanter or Derrick Williams at the 3, I wouldn't be shocked if KOC pulled the trigger on Iman at the 12. I'd love it too.

Depending on who we take at #3 & #12, and also taking into account Watson's future, I would love for the Jazz to acquire one of LA's 4 2nd rounders and get Norris Cole.

Didn't Jimmer kill Shumpert in their workout together?

I think if the Jimmer is there at 12, he's the pick.
