What's new

Slo Mo Joe

I actually think Joe's versatility makes him quite valuable - when everyone is healthy he can be an end of the bench guy, but he can play the two or the three, can shoot a little, and can create a little. If there's any wing injury, he will be able to fill that role and that's not something most cheaper guys can do.

Would love to have him back.

Seems to be that the trend on here is turning more towards let the home cooking continue as opposed to bringing in a new player. That is OK for maybe one more year but this group is not enough to get us to where we want to be, imo.

Still 2-3 pieces short, along with home cooking, of being a championship contender. I'd rather bring that player in next year and let it cook a year or two than bring that player to the team in 2-3 years and hope it works.

Carroll is worth spending the available millions on. He's a two-way player who is familiar with the city, the system, will peak with our core, etc., etc.

Tomic would be an obvious upgrade.

Anywhoo, I agree with you

The two you mention are actually my two preffered targets for this team.

Why would Carroll come here? Atlanta would give him a starter spot on a good team. I assume they be willing to offer a decent deal.

Utah could offer him the exact same. A decent deal for a starter spot on a good team.

So he is going to leave Atlanta, one of the best teams in the league that has him as a starter, for a young team that will struggle to make the playoffs and has a deeper wing rotation?

Not happening. He is also turning 29 this off-season.

Then he has 3-4 good years left. Also it depends on the offers between Atl and Utah. Is it likely? Maybe not but it is well within the realm of possible.

Good posts in here. I am on the wagon of let them show what they can do one more year. I'm not buying the argument that these guys can't get there. I think a wing rotation of Hayward, Hood and Burks is enough. With Ingles and Johnson to fill in I really like it. I'm more sold on Johnson than Millsap. He's younger and better at offense.
.
So for me draft BPA no matter what position, Bring over Tomic, look at upgrading Burke (I just don't see him fitting in long term) and let it ride for a bit. If they show next year that they are getting within sight of their ceiling (which I think they are a long way from) then you look to upgrade the spots that have shown to be inadequate. 3 new player on a team playing as well as the Jazz have is already a lot. Adding a big contract guy now is flirting with trouble down the line. If something unbelievable drops in their laps then alright, but I'm not sure they should be looking for a big splash.

He wears number 2, as evidenced by the signed ball that was thrown to me at the final home game of the season, signed by our Uncle Joey himself.

Thought it was funny that the Jazz told Ingles to get in better shape for next year. Basically said he was kind of fat.

Absolutely and still give him time no matter who we bring back. I'd have him as an end of rotation guy in a play off rotation.

I say grab a SF/SG in free agency or via trade and make Ingles the #1 3rd stringer if that makes sense

Like this for example:

Carroll/Hood
Hayward/Burks

Then Ingles and Millsap as the final wing guys.

I don't like this. This rotation has Carroll 30 mins, Hayward 30 mins, and 12 mins for Burks and Hood and 10 for Ingles.

I think I'd rather have Hood, Hayward and Burks each have 30 mins with Ingles have 10. I don't want the Jazz to go after a wing.

Seems weird saying that, but I've completely changed my opinion on this. Save the money for a backup big man. We need a center.

I actually think Ingles could get better by fixing his body. He doesn't look like an NBA player. He could get a little quicker and stronger. Every little bit helps.

I was keen on getting De Marre Carrol initially but now cant see how he gets minutes and may not take being a bench guy for 10-15 minutes esp after his minutes at Hawks,
Hawks, even Knicks could offer him more minutes which would have us not in the race.
Im now happy with our Wings Hayward, Hood, Burks, Slo Mo Joe, Lil'sap- if we do spend up it needs to be at PG or Center, Slo Mo Joe contributes so much he's going to be a
leader of this team both on and off court (he's had that role at the national AUS team level which is why its natural for him in our young team) plus his bball IQ is off the charts,
great second unit guy just look at this Burke/Cotton (interchangeable, I personally think Burke will be traded if not off season at trade deadline), Burks, Ingles, Booker plus Tomic or Pliess or FA Center.

Ingles is not a guy whod be pissed because he averages 10-15 minutes in event of injuries he plays 20-25 at a pinch.
Slo Mo Joe just like Booker if they're not on the team next season (unless we pull off a blinder and trade or sign a superstar) I will be seriously pissed

We really really need to bring this dude back. Great personality, everyone loves him, and he actually turned into a good basketball player too.

I was just listening to DJ and pk interview him on their morning show. He is the best interview ever. DJ and pk both loved every minute of it (I did too), he uses just the right amount of humour and seriousness. I lol'd multiple times during the interview.
They brought up the booker tweets at kanter and asked Joe what level of anger the team was at with kanter. Joe said that the team was as angry and upset at kanter as he has ever seen in his years of playing basketball. Basically everyone on the team was pissed. He said that everyone liked Kanter when he was on the team and that kanter was/is a good player. He said that the things kanter said about the Jazz organization, fans, city, teammates, and coaches were all lies. He said how much he loves the city, fans, coaches and organization and really really wants to be here. Talked about how grateful he is to have played here and that he thinks if not for the jazz then no one would have picked him up.

He seems to be the type of person that will captivate a whole room and have everyone wrapped around his finger whenever he wants. Those types of people are rare in this world. (I have known 2 people that have that ability, one male and one female..... super charismatic people that make you feel like the sun is shining on you and you are the most important person in the world when they are talking to you. I wish I possessed that skill)

Jingles is becoming one of my favorite players...... and I hated that he was on the team early in the year and never wanted to see him on the court.
He has won me over with his personality AND his play on the court.
Hell I would even drop $120 on his jersey if there was one available to buy and I don't even know what number he wears. (It would have to be after he signs another contract with the jazz so I know he will be sticking around)

Personally I have never felt one way or the other about Ingles. But after hearing that interview, you have to love a guy that is playing with a chip on his shoulder. Those guys that are forgotten about by the rest of the NBA can sometimes be some of the best bench assets a team could have.

I don't see Utah making a big splash in free agency. This team has special chemistry; you just don't mess with that. Any thoughts of perhaps clearing space by not picking up Booker"s option and getting a wing are gone. Booker is the heart and soul of the team with his tweets. And we have that other solid wing in Hood. Having Ingles and Millsap behind the 3 others is ideal. Jazz will add tomic or Pleiss and their pick. I don't see a trade involving anyone. The youngest team in the league with one of the best records after the break. Why mess with that?

Except Burke. He destroys chemistry when he starts chucking. And even when he's hitting shots, there is no coherence to the offense. Everyone else is just standing around watching him.

I am fine with bringing back most of the team. I think the Jazz biggest need is a backup center. I think Jazz should wait and see if Cotton can handle the back up spot and then look to trade Burke. They can get another shooter in the draft.
