Early indications are the Jazz will not be major players once the NBA free-agency period begins Dec. 9.


After two days of informal discussions between teams and agents, multiple sources told The Salt Lake Tribune that Utah will likely focus on making minor additions to what will be an 11-man roster once rookies Enes Kanter and Alec Burks are signed. The Jazz are expected to primarily focus on adding a proven backup point guard, and could use veteran minimum contracts to fill out the remainder of their roster.


Utah has expressed initial exploratory interest in unrestricted free agents Rasual Butler, Sebastian Telfair and Roger Mason, a source said. Meanwhile, a source close to forward Andrei Kirilenko gave no indication the Jazz are actively attempting to re-sign him. Kirilenko did draw immediate interest from multiple teams, though.

Sources also reiterated to The Tribune the Jazz are not expected to immediately use their amnesty clause on veteran center Mehmet Okur, and said Utah isn't actively pursuing a trade involving Millsap.

No thank you, lets just stick with Earl. Mason hasn't been playing very well lately but maybe he's got a final burst before he is done. I would like this pickup the most out of all of them. I think Butler's time is up in the NBA. But I guess these are all just small-signings and would be the 12th man anyways.

I agree with you. If these guys are anything put roster fillers, meaning they don't take time away form our new players, then it is fine. If they see much quality time then it is a very bad decision.
 
How about Jammal Tinsley? He was drafted just ahead of Tony Parker and had a decent run as the starter for the Pacers.
 
Rasual Butler 6'-7" sg 9 yr vet shoots about 36% from 3.
Telfair has been in the league 7 years? Played for 5 Different teams. Shoot about %30 from 3pt.
Roger Mason 6-5 sg. His webpage says he is a knick, ESPN doesn't even list him as an active NBA player. He had a couple of good seasons as a Spur.

Yea, I hope they are all end of the roster players if they come to the Jazz.
 
This just makes me wonder more about the Jazz plans for SF? Are Hayward and Milsap now small forwards (3) then? If not, Butler or Mason makes little sense.

Can the Jazz make it work with Hayward, Milsap and CJ at SF. And Bell, Burks, and veteran free-agent at sg? Bell could barely play on back to backs last year, his body is not going to withstand a compressed season.
 
Earl Watson coming back to Utah is far from a sure thing. The guy is in his 30's and he's never played for a contender; which Utah will not be this year. He also played fewer minutes last year than he has since his second year in the league.
 
Of course this is the party line. KOC isn't gong to show his hand early in the game. Let's all hope that if KOC has an opportunity to improve the Jazz, he will jump on it. With that said, I doubt the Jazz will do something major.
 
I know his character wouldn't fit here with some definite issues off the court, but if we are looking at wing 3-shooters, what about Shawne Williams from the Knicks? I think I remember one game he lit us up in ESA and I think he could be solid rotation player.
