Small Ball 5 Options

Ok now with the Favors trade it's pretty obvious the Jazz need to sign another center capable player. Going into the season with just Udoka to backup Rudy would be pretty reckless. I dont think the Jazz need to sign another traditional leaning 5, but someone who can reliably play small-ball 5. Juwan Morgan is the only player on the roster who might be capable of filling that role, but Quin's complete lack of willingness to do it for the past two years tells me it's unlikely.

What players in free agency or the trade market can the Jazz get?

If the Jazz want to counter small-ball defensively they need more than a center that can switch on guards. They need to add multiple defenders to their rotation.

As it stands, Jazz can't switch 1-5 even with a good center as it could create liabilities in the form of Mitchell, Clarkson, Bogey, Ingles.

Not sure any of these are gettable for the Jazz besides Batum.

It most likely has to be a guy who will take a very small contract and be OK with not being the primary backup (though I guess he could if Udoka disappoints).

Also I'm not super sure Batum is a guy who can small-ball 5. Did he ever guard the 5 in the Clips/Jazz series? Not sure he has that kind of toughness that is needed, like a Marcus Morris has.

Markieff Morris is kind of an interesting name. He's been really bad offensively last few years, but he can potentially play small ball 5.

Rudy can stay with smaller players.. it’s that our entire defense is predicated on Rudy being the only person playing defense. If Rudy stays with his man then no one is there to cover for the rest of the team.

Getting a small ball center isn’t going to help. We need better perimeter defenders.

I’m still bullish on Morgan. But the team seems out on him, and they would know better.

Would love Nance but he probably costs an asset.

Put this in another thread but... we have to thread the needle here on who we get. If we get a 4/5 then you spend a bit... if you are at the vet minimum and get a guy like Taj Gibson... then there is no way Quin will play Udoka even if Udoka is a better player... summer league is really important for him.
