Snyder and Co Reclamation Projects

Dennis Lindsey has brought up the Jazz's player development as a strength of their program on numerous occasions (Hayward career year at 27, Ingles career year at 29, George Hill career year at 30, Gobert All-NBA as the 27th pick, likening Rubio's career arc to Jason Kidd's, etc). Think there is any interest in some of the rooks whose 4th year options were declined?

Josh Huestis - Defense, size, length, athleticism.

Mario Hezonja - "Crobe", European JR Smith, who knows... I'm still on Hezonja Island, but it's getting lonely up here.

Jahlil Okafor - Gotten in better shape. Doesn't seem to have "Jazz DNA" that they're always talking about.

Brice Johnson - Looked nice at Summer League. Has played 22 minutes for the Clippers and we know how Doc feels about developing young talent...

Kevon Looney - Has shown some nice flashes after some hip injuries which have derailed his career. Has rebounding potential and can really run the floor well. Helped spark a GSW comeback vs the Wizards by outrunning everyone for some fast break dunks. Apparently Kerr is a fan of his and wanted to keep him. Was going to be owed $2.2mil next year, but would have cost GSW about double in luxury tax.

Chris McCullough - Don't know too much about him. Just remember the Nets drafting him like 29th after he tore his ACL.

We have a lot of projects already but yes I think a few of those guys would be worth a look for the right price. Looney and Hezonja I think still have some potential. Okafor I still think could be okay in the right system or spot. I dont think he is a fit here though.

10 years ago Okafor would've been a top player in the NBA, crazy that he's unusable in this NBA.

I got one, Alec Burks. He was a high draft who was athletic, aggressive and explosive. But as a young player he was put into bad situations by a bad coach, who played dead end veterans ahead of him. When he started to show promise he got injured, and struggled to stay healthy.

Burks is to playing as Corbin is to coaching. Corbin actually coached to Burks strengths (I should say the strengths Burks imagines he has) more than Quin. They were made for each other.

Burks is a bad player until he figures out that his primary scoring move should be the 3pt shot.

Arguably the biggest free agent signing of the off-season.

FWIW Burks is averaging 5.4 3 point attempts per game per 36 minutes which is right near the tops on the team (hood is averaging a crazy 8.9 3 point attempts per game per 36).
Burks is #1 on the team in 3 point percentage (50%)

Burks is far from being a "bad player." There is a legitimate question about his fit on this team with regard to his style versus what QS wants and the bench depth that we have.

So he should be shooting more.

btw, it's either "per game" OR "per 36".... unless a player averages exactly 36 minutes a game.

If Burks should only shoot 3s. Then so should Mitchell. Their games are similar. Heck everyone should jack up threes. It will be like watching church ball with athletes not using any of their athleticism. If anything this year should show us that this analytics obsession is over played in the league.

He so selfish doe. Big ol' ball hog.

Needs more touches/minutes to get more shots too imo.

To be consistent he needs 24 minutes a night or so... He has to be allowed to work through his bad minutes... He needs a rhythm imo.

Mario is kind of intriguing... I think the hate has gone too far on Okafor... I think he could be a good bench center but not a lot more.

I think Looney intrigues me the most of that group... not sure on his long term health, but i could see him as an athletic fast center with some shooting (maybe). We are covered at 4/5 though.
