I understand they dont want to keep him but they have had good luck late in the draft with players and they are the cheapest way to fill slots. They could have traded him for a future pick, even a 2nd rounder is worth more than just dumping him. They should have opted in to his contract and traded him at the deadline.

I think they tried too... that is why he played the other night... no one else was buying it. They can get ring chasers on the cheap so the spot is more valuable to them than it is to other teams.

I got one, Alec Burks. He was a high draft who was athletic, aggressive and explosive. But as a young player he was put into bad situations by a bad coach, who played dead end veterans ahead of him. When he started to show promise he got injured, and struggled to stay healthy.

Positives: Athletic, attacks the basket, creates fouls.
Negatives: Plays less than 0 defense, doesn't pass, can't finish regularly when he does get to the basket.

His defense has been sporadic... has the same ball watching issues, but have seen some improvements and effort there.

He has improved, but in short stints I think he can fall into bad habits. I like where he is trending. The hate has gone too far. He passes up less open threes than Rodney and Ingles.

When he makes mistakes it seems to snowball and looks like he starts pressing a bit. Same thing when he gets it going though... seems to really get it going when it is on. I'd just like to see him allowed to play through some stuff but maybe the best solution is to pull him out when he is struggling.

I'm surprised a bottom feeder didn't get okafor... I haven't given up on him, but I don't see him fitting in with the current roster construction.

I didn't say great defense did I? He is out there playing D. Last game had a nice block on a driving Devin harris, and a really nice leaping steal as well (then drove down court and made a nice cross court pass to a wide open ingles for 3 that he missed) in his limited minutes.

I have always, consistently, criticized burks for his defense. It has never been great. This year most of the time it's not bad (occasionally is bad still but not always) and definitely not less that zero.
Less than zero is a hyperbolic hater term imo.

Burks' problems on both ends come down to his inability to react within a TEAM SCHEMATIC. But he's definitely playing hard.

I think he'll get more opportunities later in the season. Right now Q is definitely concerned with setting good habits with all the new pieces. It's too bad that Burks can't elevate what Q is trying to install, but once it's installed, I think Burks will get more chance to fit in. The leash is shorter right now for everyone that ****s up the D, in particular.

He's made some stand out effort plays, but his off ball ball watching is still his biggest issue. Then he locks in to his guy and doesn't help.

I don't think it is so bad that teams are targeting him... but as a whole it's still just not good.
