What's new

Some random thoughts about our new direction

As for the OP, I doubt we'll be in position for any of the top FA's. But we may be able to facilitate teams trying to shed salaries to get or keep those FA's, either doing the same thing we did this summer (expirings + picks) or actually getting a solid rotation player or two. Even with two firsts and new contracts for Favors and Hayward, the Jazz should have almost $20M in cap space.

This is the year where Favors shows what kind of player he is. He's been developed cautiously for 3 seasons and is being given the starting role. He needs to show he can score regularly and anchor the defense. Otherwise, he might become tradable in a deal that gets us another high lotto pick or a better pick in 2014. I'm not hitting the panic button by any means, but now is the time for Favors and Kanter to make this their team -- with three solid passers to feed them the ball.
