Some thoughts on Gordy being a future All-Sar

Also, there would be debate on how profitability is actually measured, and it rewards those teams that have overspent and/or have been managed poorly.)

A random drawing will never happen. Could you imagine if Miami received the first pick? It would not be fair, and the NBA could not justify a future lottery if they allowed teams like LA, Bos, Mia, Orl, Dal, etc to have a shot at top 5 picks in an incredibly deep draft. There will be some NHL-style average, and the Jazz will end up around the 10-15 spot. Not too bad. It might actually help us with the GS pick. They might be a lot worse then their pick ends up being, which means we would get it.

I see GS and the Jazz getting about the same record as last season. In other words, if there was a season, my guess is both picks would be around #10. But if the NBA averaged each team's record from the past 3 seasons like the NHL, I believe GS would get the 8th pick (a thing of beauty huh?), but our own pick would fall out of the lottery and be lost to the T-Wolves.

I guess my point is that, in a loaded draft like 2012, I would rather have the combo of picks #10 and #11 than just pick #8. Just another reason to hope there's a season...

I thought that Dirk was couple of years older- but I should have remember he entered the league at 18.

Are you that sure that Bryant is still going to be able to run in 2 years? He looked fairly rundown to me.

Will he still be great? Probably not, but as long as he can play, he will play and as long as he is playing, the fans will vote him in. Kobe could play 25 mpg, average 15 points and still make the All-Star team as a fan voted starter. Dirk could also get fan votes with his rising popularity, plus his game should age well.
 
In regards to the 2012 NBA Draft order: Wouldn't the most fair thing to do be go off of last years standings for #14-thru-32 and re-do the lottery for the top 14 teams?

If that were the case, the Jazz could find themselves with 2 lottery picks again. Utah would have their own @ #12 (with the slim possibility of moving up in the lottery) as well as Golden State's pick as long as it landed outside of the Top 7 (if I'm understanding the protection on the pick correctly.

If that's how the NBA handled a 2012 Draft without a season, Utah's worst-case lottery scenario would be having the 11th and 12th picks (GS picked 11th this year). In a draft that's supposed to be much deeper than 2011, that's not too shabby. Not to mention the fact that maybe Utah could find some success packaging those 2 picks and moving up a little higher.

I have a feeling that the fans of each team would define fairness completely differently when it comes to this, but I feel pretty confident in saying that few non-Jazz fans would consider awarding Utah two lottery picks in a loaded draft to be fair.

Who's "awarding" Utah anything? Utah EARNED that draft pick by having the 'nads to trade D-Will while the gettin was good. If I understand the protection on the pick correctly, Utah get's GS's 2012 1st round pick as long as it's not Top 7. Regardless of how the NBA decides to do the 2012 Draft if there's no season, If GS's pick ends up between 8 and 14, it belongs to Utah. If that doesn't seem "fair" to non-Jazz fans, well who gives a ****?
 
I like the attitude I'm seeing around here. Damn right that nobody's going to give it to us. We've got to go take it! Let's go to the extreme and call for a full contact draft lottery.
 
Gordon will be an All-star before CJ will.
