Somebody explain Derrick Williams love to a Jazz Fan

DX did a pretty good job in picking his best case scenario. Michael Beasley with intangibles/no attitude.

I DON'T HATE WILLIAMS. I don't really like tweeners. If he can really play small forward then great.

As for last year, I did like Sanders and I also like Paul George. Funny how nobody ever gives me credit for that. I will say the worst part about last year was the game where Hayward really struggled in the first half and I ripped him good only to have him score 20 or so points in the second half. I took a beating on this board.

can williams really dribble?
He's not going to handle it like a LeBron or Durant but if you close-out on him can definitely put it on the deck. The big question I have with him is how well can he defend on the perimeter? Can he chase guys around screens? That said - in this draft the things he does well significantly outweigh the things he may struggle with.

Hear some David West comparisons - another guy I might compare him to is a young Larry Johnson - although DWill is a little bigger (I hope) and a better perimeter shooter at this stage in their careers.

I try to read this board every day and it seems to me there is great number of people who want to trade Paul Millsap because he is too small to play power forward and not yet fast enough play small forward. I believe the Millsap of today=Derrick Williams. Derrick Williams is going to try to convert from being a 4 to 3. That scares me. Maybe he is successful, maybe not. I really prefer Kanter. I hope he makes it past Minnesota.

my roommate is an arizona alum so I watched the Wildcats play over thirty times in teh last two years.

And this guy is just can't miss. Worst case scenario, we're talking a better version of Beasley. Best case scenario is Paul Pierce.

Williams actually reminds me a lot of Pierce, because they both kinda played a lot of power forward in college. And they both have really great body control.

Williams has an incredible first step, and his ball handling skills show potential even though they need work. His jumpshot has a slow release, but its very accurate. And this is something he added to his game over the summer.

The really impressive thing about Williams is that he's an incredibly hard worker. I've never seen a college basketball player improve like that in two years. He played a good portion of last season with a brace over his strong hand, and during that time he showed off his ability to do things with his off hand.

He's a competitor and a hard worker and his teammates love him. It's somewhat rare to see all three at the college level.

Also, the comparison to millsap is very superficial. There's a reason Williams is going top three and Millsap went in the second round. Derrick Williams is much much quicker and more explosive than Millsap and has much more advanced shooting and ball handling. Think more like Danny Granger than Paul Millsap.

This is a legitimate question that I've posed mostly to the people that are desperate to trade Millsap for a sub-par, lesser-twin from Stanford, but Williams could be awesome. As always, the questions are defensively. However, whatever disadvantages he brings to defense, he brings an exact advantage to offense. An incredibly versatile, gifted, and cerebral scorer that picks apart his matchup's defensive weakness. He's a very aggressive player in general. He seems like he could play the 3, but we'll have to see how that goes as time goes. At worst, he can be a very good 2nd scoring option or the best 3rd scoring option in the NBA.

Best Case: Michael Beasley W/perfect Intangibles
Worst Case: More Athletic Antawn Jamison

That pretty much sums it up. Pretty rad.

Dwill2 is the PERFECT SF for the Jazz and here is why...

-He is very athletic and a great defender...doesnt foul

-Great hands and a great rebounder

-Amazing shooter

-his biggest weakness is that he's not the best ball handler..but here is why thats OK...the Jazz offense is dominated by the pg and the bigs....so when there are double teams he is perfect for getting open and nailing the outside jumpers. Yet he can still drive in and finish at the rim. He is still young so he can still develop a jumpshot off the dribble and improve in his ball handling skills.

I dont know about great defender, I think that is the biggest (really the only) ? with him playing the 3.

Awesome. I feel better about him after hearing this. Either Kanter or Willaims, at 3 the Jazz can't miss.

That's how I feel. If the Jazz get Kanter, I'll feel good knowing we'll never have to see a guy like Elson ever again. Someone always gets hurt for at least a few games so I'm not worried about playing time for Favors, Jefferson, Millsap, Okur and Kanter. Under that scenario, Millsap probably plays 10-15 mins at SF. He could handle the position against backup SF's. That would leave Utah with CJ as a starter for one more season, but a deal could always be made near the deadline (Okur or CJ's expiring). Or the Jazz just wait to use GS' pick on a small forward. Or maybe a SF like Leonard drops or Singleton or Honeycutt impresses enough to move up. If not, then I'm not dead set against Fredette at #12, or maybe Burks is still available.
