Would you trade Favors, Mitchell and a 1st-round pick to Portland for CJ McCollum?

McCollum's salary is about to jump up to $22M I believe with his extension this year.

Food for thought.

Portland would want more than that for CJ. Here's a derrivative ---

CLE out: Love, Shumpert, 1st
CLE in: Paul George

IND out: George
IND in: Favors, Mitchell, Utah 1st

POR out: CJ McCollum
POR in: Kevin Love

UTA out: Favors, Mitchell, 1st
UTA in: CJ McCollum, Shumpert

Say there is 390 NBA players. Where would McCollum rank defensively? 381st?

I think you make that trade and not think twice about it. Not sure why POR would do it though.

Yeah but where does he rank offensively?

Overall he's a top 30 player in this League.

I'm not sure you Win a title if McCollum is a starter on your team, unless you're golden State. He's a great offensive talent but it just doesn't help when you score and then give up 2 more on other side... I'd stay with Mitchell higher upside.

Top 30? I'm not so sure about that

Mitchell himself would have a shot at developing into a player comparable to CJ. I won't even trade him for CJ straight up unless we can beat the Warriors by adding him next season.

McCollum is an All Star-caliber player. It gives the Jazz a PG who can play on and off the ball, it encourages Hayward to stay, and it makes the Jazz a better team. But the Jazz would have to sit down with Hayward, see if that would move his meter and ask for 48 hours to get the deal done.

The premise is that the Jazz need to improve the team and add a PG to recruit Hayward to stay. It's a win-now move.

We should have traded the pick before taking Mitchell if we were going too. Now I have made myself fall in love with the kid, and all the thoughts of having got a great player are in my head, before cold reality comes when we actually see him play.

I'll never be higher on him than I am right now. So I don't want to trade him, even if it is completely stupid not too for a player as good as CJ.

If Indiana is this high on Mitchell than go for it, I kind of doubt it tho, he isn't as sexy pick as say Malik Monk

It's not about Indiana being high on Mitchell. It's about them being low on George's current trade value. They'd do the trade in a heartbeat because all they give up is one year rental of a player who doesn't really want to stay and compete any more.

I'm going to guess that Monk was the other player the Jazz wanted to trade up for last night.
With Favors on the trading block and Dennis saying the Jazz need shooters, I'm guessing Zach Collins. Of course, I'm a Zags fan, so I'm biased.

Would be cold to make a player's day by trading for him and then turn around and trade him in a week's time. I think he and Lindsey have some major love going on between them. But wouldn't it be funny if Hayward said he'd stay if Utah could get Love - and the price was Mitchell. Just like the Lebron/Love/Wiggins triangle.

Cleveland is under duress to try to upgrade the team with Paul George before Lebron bolts.
Indiana is under duress to get a good return for a player who has said he'll only sign an extension with the Lakers.
Portland is under financial duress going into the Luxury Tax with two maxed out guards that don't defend and create a treadmill team.
Utah is under duress to try to keep Gordon Hayward -- or who knows, maybe they let him walk. Doing this deal puts a damper on Boston's pitch to Hayward.

The Jazz would also have to trade Diaw's non-guaranteed deal and take back Harkless from Portland. They'd be paying $22M for a PG, but at least it's a PG that deserves that kind of contract. Hood becomes more expendable.
