What's new

Sorry Jazz fans – Ben is the NBA Rookie of the Year

I think it could help prevent the voting from focusing mostly on playoff performance.

There is no reason the results can't be announced earlier, even before the playoffs starts. We are in the electronic age.

I think Simmons will win RoY, and I have no complaint with that results, but I would much rather have Mitchell than Simmons.

NBA makes a big mistake with these Player of the Year awards. They are voted on at the end of the regular season for regular season work. But then they are not announced until what, start of the NBA finals? At that time, many of the winners could look like frauds. Terry Stott was mentioned as Coach of the Year or Dwayne Casey. How are they gonna look after getting swept? What if the Jazz bounce out MVP Harden? Of if Simmons keeps playing like this while DM advances? Just announce them before the playoffs start or hold off voting until 4 game of the finals.

Another point, listening to Tim Legler on the radio and Simmons has horrible fundamentals for shooting and will have to work really really hard it for a long time to get any good. I suspect he will get better but never good.

what ? an 82 games regular season is not long enough for players and coaches to proof their worth as winners of these awards? Most leagues in the world only play 30 games a season. Lol.

It is weird that they wait to announce the winners of regular season awards. Announce them when people care about them at the end of the regular season. Once the playoffs start everyone's perception changes and they are less important. It really hurts the awards.

Lebron is clearly the MVP again and wont win it.

Mitchell is clearly the best rookie and wont win it.

Snyder is COY but might not win it and someone like Casey might win it and then get fired.

Yes mitchell is clearly the best rookie in the eyes of biased jazz fans. (Unfortunately you are one of them )
70 % of neutral , unbiased basketball fans and pundits would say simmons is the best rookie.

That is fine but just announce them before the playoffs

I mean it was debatable during the regular season. But literally no one who doesnt live in Australia or Philly thinks Simmons is the best rookie in the playoffs.

I like that you are going down with the ship though, good on ya buddy.

The playoffs only last around 10 games.
The regular season last 82 games which give better indication who is best rookie. You can't compare the 2.

I like the idea of Ben getting the award after having an inferior impact when it matters most... like the sad Dirk MVP press conference when they got ousted in the first round.
