What's new

Sources: Utah has expressed interest in re-acquring Deron Williams

More than anything DL probably just wants to make sure Exum gets minutes. I doubt they are super worried about the chemistry thing, but you kind of only have a 1.5 more years to find out what Exum really is before you have to give him a new contract.

Could still get minutes. Bench Burks... I know he needs minutes too but we can find those through inevitable injuries that will come

Here is the risk of not acquiring d will now... Hill gets hurt and now we have Exum and Mack going up against CP3 in the playoffs... D will goes to Cleveland or a contender and then doesn't want to leave. Hill walks and now we are left with Exum who has played like 3 good games and had almost zero moments that matter.

If we suck in the playoffs Hayward is less likely to stay... if we are left with Dante Exum as our starting pg next year Hayward is less likely to stay.

I guess I just see the risk of getting the guy now and sitting AB or Exum as less than letting the guy go somewhere else and assuming you have just as good of a shot later.

There is also no one else on the buyout market worth pushing ATM. So we'd have wasted our cap space... again. Just not the way to build a team. Hopefully we sign the guy.

So you would pay Terrance Jones a good size amount of money risking our ability to re-sign our own players just to avoid slipping in the standings this year? I'd rather build for the long term.

No one is signing Jones to a high dollar multi-year deal at this moment. He'll likely get a 1 year deal. If we shut down Favors for a while, he would step into a starting role on a playoff contender AND pocket more jingle that most anywhere else.

All good points. I certainly want to give Dante more time and have him play decent minutes, but Hill's health is a concern. If he were to go down, we'd be in serious trouble.

Who knows, just kind of repeating what Tony Jones has been saying. He is very doubtful Jazz want D-Will this year, said .1% chance at happening.

The Jazz are so conservative sometimes...it makes me ill. I think there is only an upside to bring Deron on board. FO thinks Deron will destroy team chemistry? Lame.

At press conference today, Dante listed his goals going into last 25 games as establishing himself in the rotation, continuing to grow his minutes and having a bigger role. When asked a follow-up about what he needed to do on the court to earn minutes, he said he’s already been doing that to an extent: aggressive offensively, keep scoring up in second unit, being defensively minded and pressuring the ball.

The Jazz need to find out what they have before they place their long-term bet on Exum. And since playing time is FIRST on his mind, there is a real risk that he begins harboring lasting negative feelings towards the Jazz that are hard to overcome.

The timing of Deron joining right now is not good unless he agrees to come in as third string PG/ backup SG role @15 mpg. Timing is much better to sign him in the offseason if Sixers or Spurs throw >$22M at Hill & Jazz chose to not compete for Hill.

As an aside, I Dante's answers were a bit disappointing in that his first goals were things beyond his control.

Jazz can easily claim him off waivers if they want.

If he clears waivers, which he probably will, then anyone can sign him.

But it sounds as if the Jazz are out either... I disapprove... like a lot.

Exactly. The Jazz are always way too conservative. Even Lindsay came out last summer saying they should have been more proactive since we missed the playoffs last year, and now they're most likely doing it again. Jazz are **** outta luck if Hill goes down when they could of had a solid backup in Dwill. Irritating.

Will Hayward stay if the Jazz get swept in the first round? I don't think so. Which is why we need to solidify our PG depth. We're going to play the Clippers in the 1st round, we'll either have homecourt or not, but our opponent will be the Clippers. If we make no moves at all, it will be a quick and easy sweep for the Clippers. For christsakes, they destroyed us on our homefloor WITHOUT CP3. At least we know Deron has always been the CP3 kryptonite.
Whatever, I know deep down the Jazz will do nothing...
