What's new

Spencer Checketts picking up the slack on 1320kfan

I'll lay it all out:

I like Booner, Locke, Ryan Hatch, Gordie Chiesa.

I think DJ and PK can be ok.

I think the opinions of Garrard, Monson, Boler, Bagley, Alema, Dave Fox, Hans Olson, etc. are worthless.

Don't know much about the new guy. I'll give him a shot. I care about his basketball knowledge and possibly connections for interviews. If he sucks, well my afternoon commute is only 4 minutes now so it doesn't matter really.

Just another reason to never listen to Sports Talk Radio. I wouldn't stuff "Spence" (who goes by Spence, really?) up my crap hole if I had room for a mighty elm. My least favorite radio personality of all time.

This. Absolutely this.

Why can't they just have a hot girl personality doing the show?
Every time I picture these sports analysts, I think Steve Buscemi

I always found Spence Checketts to be an overly defensive hack who rode daddy's coat-tails to a job and lashed out at anyone having a different opinion. Maybe he'll do well at 1320, but I won't know because I won't listen.

Wait... that's what you meant, right?
hehe.....

Looking at the other side of this, it looks like Locke, Boler, (and Allema) are kind of big timing the station saying that they are too high and mighty to do a lowly talk show, and should only be used as guests instead of regulars. That leaves the show with one decent but no name host in Scott, so they had a hole to fill. Looks like Scott and Spence have history together, so it made sense.

You do realize that the whole Q and A session was staged for laughs, right? The show is supposed to be entertaining. I mean, they had the Hot Rod impersonation going for heaven's sake.

I like how Spence sounds, and I am a bit of a fan of RSL, so bring it on.

Side note, isn't it funny how almost everyone that 1320 has came from other radio stations, primarily 1280? DJ and PK: 1280, Allema: 1280 (now gone from 1320 tho, but still in Larry Miller group) Scotty G: 1280, Bolerjack: you guessed it, 1280. I'm pretty sure some of the less known names are too, and now they steal away Spence from wherever he came from (don't know personally, but apparently he was working for another station.) So, are they coming over to be part of the Jazz, or is there a few benjamins involved here.
You do realize that most (if not all) of those guys started at 1320 before switching to 1280?

I actually was not aware of that. Strange that they would go to 1280, then to come back again. I guess I need to change my opinion of things in that area.

oops.

All of them were initially at 1320 and then Locke got involved with a group that created 1280 and slowly attracted them over, but eventually that fell apart and most of the guys went back to 1320.

Not that strange. Money can influence people to do many things. 1320 got bought by the Miller group and threw big money at David James and Patrick Kinehan. Then, they got Locke to come back (no doubt promising him the eventual play by play position when Hot Rod finished).

It's business. Aside from Monson (who by far has the highest pay check at that station), the other guys are all former jocks with no prior media experience. 1320 has media professionals (David James, Kinehan, and even Locke) and some other guys with years of radio business experience. They are just an operation with more cash that can afford more developed talent. That's why the guys came back.

I believe everyone started to ditch 1280 when Jeff Rickard was the programming director. I heard that guy was a big a-hole.
