Donovan can like the guy, and probably also see the bench is a mess and causing him to have to play too many minutes. Jeff didn’t try hard and didn’t care much about defense. I’m sure he’s a great guy. The Jazz bench was 28th in the league and was destroying the starters. You couldn’t bench Jeff or he would have asked to be released/traded anyway. The Jazz has whatever reasons they had for releasing him. The bench was killing us, and you couldn’t just stand pat. Donovan could see and feel what was going on as much or probably more than any of us. Better bench production/effort will please him. Also, Jazz could have cut Niang, who Donovan is closer too. Jazz wanted that G-League guy quite a bit obviously. They choose who they felt was best to cut to open that up and try to shore up a bench that has been an unmitigated disaster.I don't think he was a happy guy when all this went down calling out the Trib reporter. These guys were together for three months playing ball and relationships develop. Heck even Enes liked Jeremy when Kanter bolted town. The release and timing of it was different.
