Whatever helps you sleep at night.

I know for a fact that it’s not addicting for me. I was a chronic smoker for a decade. Quit all at once one day. No effects at all. Not one.
Same for other people I know. Never ever met someone that had any physical withdrawal symptoms when they stopped smoking though.

You most likely know several people who wont admit they get/got physical withdrawals. If it were purely casino odds, your chances of knowing 10 potheads and none of them having disorder are about 1 in 2,000,000. Of course, that's too small a sample size, but get that up around 30 potheads and it's as close to a guarantee as there is.

It's not rare. The potheads are losing this long time debate favorite. It's 30% now, down from 35% in '01-'02.

Anytime you start messing with neurotransmitters and brain chemicals like GABA and dopamine, all of these having significant effects and feedback loops, you are going to find addiction. You don't simply block important receptors and your body not adjust to your drug uptake by adjusting all the other pathways, thus creating a dependence on that drug to maintain the balance (which is artificially and out of whack in hyper and hypo production of other chemicals, enzymes, binders, etc., even if balanced).

What about the real sugar addiction that most people have? Should we ban sugar? It has real bad side effects as well, much worse than weed.

Also this is a GA convo.

You put too much trust in science and doctors. They want you to thinks it’s addicting and evil. They have an agenda. Keep lining the pockets of big pharma.
And you say that these people I know are lying. Lol. Why would they lie to me? What’s the motivation?
Also, I have experience in being an extremely heavy user and quitting cold turkey one day.

To sum up this debate, I think we can all agree, we can become addicted to ANYTHING that brings us pleasure. Our brains are wired for that. But I never saw anyone go through the DT's like in alcohol addiction when they gave up pot. It's just not physically addicting and if it is for some, it's very minor. It's a psychological addiction, like some here have for Jazzfanz if they miss a day of posting.
