What's new

Stanford @ Utah

Couple of cool random things from the game, Shaky Smithson stopped by our tailgate (for like a minute, but still). Also, when Ty Montgomery had that kickoff return in the 1st qtr I took the can of beer I had snuck into the game to pour on the Stanford QB's mom and decided to go chug it in the bathroom instead. Stanford didn't score again until the 4th qtr.

Food for thought: after seeing the UCLA/Utah game, either UCLA is just not good enough to worry that they'll win the division or Utah is truly a force to be reckoned with. Give the Utes a healthy Travis Wilson and receivers that don't cough up 4 interceptions and the Utes win that game easily. Easily.

Utah is a sleeping giant. Shaw talked about it after the game. Utah is big, physical and fast. They are just young. Do you realize that the whole offense comes back sans two OL? Plus they get Scott back? That is HUGE. Utah had 6 players that got legit cracks in the NFL off last year's team. They have another 5-6 on the defense right now. They are just young. Next year, Utah will also still have Rowe, have Blechen back, Gionny Paul will be able to play, hopefully Orchard comes back, Dimick looks like a beast, the corners will all be very experienced. Utah is lining to have an very good season this year (if they can beat Arizona, they could get 7-9 wins) and an amazing season next year.

UCLA is legit, and what Utah did to UCLA was legit. If that game was in clean weather, Utah beats UCLA.

Exciting times to be a Utah fan. We have a great coach, great assistant coaches, very, very good QB, and potential through the roof. Next year, Hundley, Marriota, Price, Mannion, Taylor are all gone. Utah HAS to get to a bowl game to get ready for next year. The next big step is Arizona. We have to win that game.

I wonder where the Utes would be with Kenneth Scott and Jake Murphy.

This team is only 2 plays away from being 6-and-0. I try not to think about that though because it makes me sad.

The what if game sucks. I did that every game Riley Nelson played, not cool.

I say just be happy with the progress the team has made and hope others step up. It sucks when good players go down, but that's how this game is.
Utah is looking pretty good this year, Stanford was a great win. I'm not 100% sold that they have arrived and will win against the good teams every week, but at least you now know it's very possible. Definitely progress being made.

This is very well said. I don't think I personally am in danger of being blinded by Ute-colored glasses. I am, however, very optimistic for the future, and feeling really good about the improvements over last season.
