Start Dante for Rubio

Like, how short is your memory if you have to ask why Rubio gets more respect than Exum? This is why no one respects the Exum homers/Rubio haters.

Did you forget the playoffs where he frustrated the hell out of Westbrook by dropping a triple double on him? Or the entire 2nd half of last season where he helped lead a giant regular season comeback to make the playoffs? It's kind of like doing these things earns you some kind of capital among your coaches and peers.

When has Exum done these things on the level Rubio has done them? The answer is never, and until that happens, Rubio is going to be trusted more. Exum is starting to make steps towards that, but that's what they are: Steps. He has a long way to go and he doesnt just get to leapfrog Rubio like so many of you have wet dreams about.

LAST YEAR . Lol

Rubio plays 30 mpg. That isnt a ton of minutes. You people act like he's out here playing 36 a game and there's nothing left for Dante. He plays the perfect amount of minutes. I'm surer Rubio and the team hold him accountable. He isn't the kind of player who needs to be taught through the bench. He's a veteran who understands what Snyder wants out of him.

At the end of the day the team needs Rubio to perform at his highest level possible, so they are going to stick with him through thick and thin because they know what he is capable of.

Exum is a unique player who had a unique path to the NBA who has had major setbacks to his development via injury. He's going to be handled differently than a highly intelligent veteran who the coach trust. If you don't understand that then I don't know what to tell you.

Ricky Rubio: The Dark Knight

Dante gets benched for bad decision making

Rubio doesnt though. I see rubio make horrible decisions that result in ghastly turnovers with no consequence

Dante gets benched for bad decision making, like missing defensive rotations or committing aimless turnovers. He has never been benched for missing shots. No one on Utah has.

There was a national story on how Q benched Rubio for bad shooting last season, then they had an elevator discussion about it. Boosted Rubio's confidence in shooting when open, and apparently free reign to miss wide open shots, lob to the other team all game long, and search dribble the shot clock away.

Srs, when was the last time Rubio's search dribble led to a) not a turnover b) not a missed reverse layup, c) time wasted off the clock?

This whole thread is a massive over-reaction to a handful of good games by Exum.

I disagree.
Its also a reaction to rubio not looking like an nba player in a large chunk of the games he has played.

He's still been better than Exum in that same large chunk. And Rubio's recent games have not been his worst games (he's had a 24-point game and two 10+ assist games in his last 5). You can't compare Exum's best games to Rubio's worst and say that's a fair comparison.

This whole thread is a massive over-reaction to a handful of good games by Exum. At this stage he's earnt himself a bit of extra court-time and a bit of slack on the leash, that's all. Let's see him do it for multiple weeks first, not just a week, it's not like we haven't seen him turn a corner before only to turn back again.

EDIT: and I'm not saying he should get the starter's job even then, just that there should be a large enough body of work in place before you can even make a comparison.

Very well said. For the first time in his career Dante has played well over a stretch of games. However it is still a small sample. The more consistent he gets the more minutes he will get. The Jazz have made a huge investment in Dante and frankly given him more than he deserves but they believe in him and believe in his upside. No one is trying to keep him from starting or keep him on the bench. If he earns it, he will get more minutes. Very simple.

I like your optimism....

But Mitchell didn’t play well tonight and hasn’t for quite a while now.

Optimism has nothing to do with hit. He has been playing terrible and IMO should have reduced minutes. Against the Knicks he played well. And his defense was excellent.

Rubio has 13 games of 10 points or less. 14 games between 10 points and 20. And you have 8 games of 20 or more points. There are 22 good or very good games and 13 pretty bad games. Is that the majority of the season? 5 of those 13 pretty bad games were in October. Selective memory.
