Why is the level of media talent in Utahr so subpar?

The guy is terrible plain and simple. I don't know how he has a job and I really hope I never have to hear him announce ever again. Nothing disgusts me more than him saying, "Deron drives to the right and squeezes off a 20 footer."

How can everyone pass up this brilliant quote?

Before I chime in, I want to say that I grew up in Utah, and I always enjoyed Steve Brown with his outdoor specials. That was 20 years ago, and now I must cringe every time he does a Jazz interview. Awkward is exactly right. All his questions suck. Worst of all, and he said this to several players, "Were you surprised by your good Play?"

As far as the other night, give praise to CJ's mom who straight up ignored him. Not that it was Steve's fault, but it's ridiculous to do interviews while the game is being played. Anyone ever heard of a timeout?????

And WORST of all, Matt Harpring yapping about how CJ and his father look just alike. Yes, Matt, good call. Ever notice how you and Jerry look just alike? (will the real slim shady please shut up, please shut up, please shut up)

I'm sure you are asked if you'd like to be interviewed during a game, before the game. If that's the case, Lanis could have been more professional and not so Ballou.

I for one cannot stand it when the cut to Big T during the game. That needs to end.

It's never good when the interviewer is speaking 800% more than the interviewee. I saw it on NBA TV, which did not show her during the interview, though when they cut to CJ's mom about 5 seconds later, she had one of those wtf!!! looks. Then she noticed the camera and tried to wipe the disgust off her face, flashing a surprised smile. Priceless.

The only reason CJ's mom ignored Brown during the interview, is she thought he was David Ballou.
I would have ignored him too, because you can't punch someone on live TV when your kid is in the game.

1) The awkward factor is much more about timing than it is about Steve Brown's interviewing skills - and he is simply doing the interviews when he is told to do them.

2) Having lived in 5 NBA cities, my opinion is that our announcers are about the same as the announcers anywhere you go.

3) I admit that for the first time I have quit watching pregame, half time, and post game on Fox RM. Last year was fine but the changes they have made for this year are the worst other than Gordie who is always great. Just can't watch it anymore. That is far worse than Steve Brown interviews or cutting in for Thurl.

I got a kick out of Harp interrupting him a few times last night to get a word in edge wise. Steve Brown doesn't know when to shut the hell up and let the color commentator do his job. He's like a one man wrecking crew with a headset.
