What's new

Stockton a coach better than a person?

You douches can say what you will but as a young fan of any sports being treated that way by an athlete isn't fun. I'm sure if it happened to you you'd feel the same way, maybe not now but when you were younger.
How about being a player that never gets any time to themselves because fans refuse to leave them alone? I get that it's exciting to see a player you like and want an autograph, but when does it end for the player? Never. They are continually bombarded with this type of stuff. So I am one who does not blame the player a bit. And I'm not going to judge the player for wanting some time to themselves. Refusing all autograph's except when required by the league to sign is a good way to avoid treating people differently.

I grew up in portland and went to a blazer/jazz game and tried to get stockton's autograph, he denied which sucked cause I was wearing his jersey and I was about 8 or so. I started to well up with tears when Jeff Hornacek came up and signed a mini jazz ball and wrote 'to the best jazz fan in portland'. I still have it to this day, and I love it...plus I got his autograph at his book signing, so it evened out in the end

I have John Stockton's signature. He scribbled it on a miniature basketball and gave it to my little sister about 28 years ago when she was 3 years old and dying of cancer at Primary Children's Hospital. Is that the kind of person you'd want to lead the team?
No because he won't spend mass amounts of his free time signing crap for everybody who wants him to.

The story is that Stockton use to sign autographs, until he signed one for a woman who didn't bother to get out of his sight before selling it.

Same story I heard as well. Pissed John of that people were selling his autographs, so he said no more.

Stockton also hated the mandatory service time the Jazz required. Said so in his book. He expressed regrets in this area, but you could tell that he is just an extreme introvert and needed time alone and with family to recharge his batteries.

Karl didn't sign something when I was young but The Big dawg did and even took a photo. As a young kid I was mad but then I grew up and realized that these are real people. If random kids interrupted me every time I sat down to eat with my kids or when I was on vacation in Idaho I would get annoyed rather quickly.

You have now entered the redzone

Messina speed-bagged my dong but to his credit, signed it after. I now am torn on if I want someone like that as the head-coach.

This was in Lake Como Italy. This is a true story. I dated his niece. We grew apart.
