After Karl Malone responded defiantly Saturday to a scathing blog post by Utah Jazz CEO Greg Miller, fellow Hall of Famer John Stockton suggested the two need to call a quick truce.

If the verbal sparring continues, Stockton feared it might “tarnish” what the organization accomplished during the Jazz’s decade of championship contention in the 1990s.

“I’ve certainly been in disputes with people as close to me as my brother,” Stockton said from his home in Spokane, Wash. “You get after it and say a lot of things.

“But I have never seen one [disagreement] that couldn’t be resolved by sitting down and talking to a person face to face. It has always worked for me.”

With Malone and Stockton as the foundation, the Jazz reached two NBA Finals and three Western Conference finals between 1992 and 1998.

Malone remains the No. 2 scorer in league history. Stockton is the all-time leader in assists and steals.

“What we all shared is so special,” Stockton said. “I just hope this can be resolved, because it was a special time for me and for everyone. I’d hate to see anything outside the lines … ever come back and tarnish it.”

Earlier in the day, Malone did not back down from comments he’d made about Jazz management’s handling of ex-coach Jerry Sloan’s retirement nearly one year ago.

Miller later wrote in his blog that Malone was “unreliable” and “unstable.” He also detailed a list of personal grievances with Malone, some of which date back years.

Malone replied: “I expressed what I feel, and I don’t regret what I said. It’s what I believe about coach Sloan.”

Malone deferred further comment until he had a chance to speak with Miller in person.

“We’ve all become very brave when we’re tweeting, texting, blogging,” he said. “We just write and press send. I don’t have time for that.

“Don’t tweet it, don’t blog it, don’t text it — give me a little human element. … I’m in town two or three times a month. Until I see him face to face, there won’t be any more comment about Greg Miller.”

In his blistering Twitter post, Miller said Malone was dishonest about being unable to get a game ticket: “Hey Karl — you’re lying. You have my number. Next time you need a seat to a Jazz game, call me. You can have mine.”

Malone had previously claimed he was forced to buy a ticket from a scalper to attend the Jazz game following Sloan’s retirement announcement.

My feeling is that Malone and Miller will sit down and fix this. That tends to be what Karl does. I'll give him credit for that. Sit down and talk with him, and he plays nice and fair. Put him in front of a mic, and he goes off. It's what he does.

Karl and Larry did this kind of thing for years.. Hopefully Greg is as forgiving as his father was. What else can you do?

Well I hope Stockton can help heal the wounds on both sides and bring them together in the spirit of peace and harmony. Whatever.

LOL.

History repeats itself.....

Greg needs to do what he father would have done a long time ago.... have a sit down... Cry... Kiss and makeup.

Karl typically blew up almost every year. Threaten to leave. Larry would sit him down. The two would talk. Hug. Kiss. Makeup.

And Karl would always end up being a Jazz.

I hope that Greg bring him in, they make up, and Greg gives Karl some type of job. Work with Kanter and Favors. I know Karl isn't the most articulate person, but he could teach those guys a thing or two. Besides, it's not like Karl is ever going to go away and never open his mouth. We drafted him and resigned him all those years. We knew he needed some love and attention. Time to give it to him.

Malone and Miller just need to shut the hell up. Last thing this team needs is this bullcrap drama. It is over, it happened. Move the hell on.

Stockton is the ****. It's almost ironic that he's the voice of reason having been one of the most underpaid players in NBA history. In fact... I don't know who has been more underpaid than him.

Dude's cut from hero cloth, even if he was cold to fans.

Dude's cut from hero cloth, even if he was cold to fans.

I actually find that endearing. He was completely real. He didn't like or want fame. He wasn't trying to snub people, he just didn't understand why anyone cared. All he wanted to do was play ball and go home to his family.

NBA commissioner David Stern said Monday he wants the recent war of words between Jazz CEO Greg Miller and ex-Utah forward Karl Malone “put to rest.” - Salt Lake Tribune

Sigh...smh

Threads about this feud need to be put to rest. Malone is an attention whore and Greg is a spoiled little brat more concerned with cars than basketball and having a hard time adjusting to having the "keys to the castle".

They both need to shut up.

This is the reason that Stockton is considered the best Jazz player by MANY (Not because he is white) and the reason people put him in front of Malone. Many say Malone wouldn't be Karl Malone without Stockton. Others say Stockton wouldn't be the all time leader in Assists without Malone. Both are true in my opinion but Stockton is a normal guy vs. Karl Malone can only talk about Karl Malone.

It's why it goes "Stockton to Malone" instead of "Malone from Stockton". Not really, but Stockton should be the heart and soul of every Jazz fan. And you are right, it has nothing to do with his skin color. My second favorite Jazz (and Stars) player is Ron Boone, he is the consummate gentleman and just a decent guy. I am so glad he lives here and didn't return to... Iowa, was it.

Now Stern is getting into it? Why? This is no big deal. I would think most non-jazz fans would ignore it.

There have been much worse war-of-words in the NBA over the years.

"A lot of [Malone's] charm is that he speaks his mind," said Stern, who referenced Malone as an "old friend" in the interview with the Salt Lake City newspaper. "But on this one, where Jerry has given his statement and Greg his given his statement -- and they were there and they were in the room. ... I'm not sure why Karl has put himself in the position of saying, 'I don't know the facts but I know what happened.' When, in fact, he couldn't have."

The more Malone talks about this the stupider he looks. Great for Stockton to try and be the voice of reason but they both need to drop it. That however is something Malone is to damn stupid to do.

So we have

Malone-- Wasn't there, did not talk to Sloan, and likes to make himself the center of any attention
Monson-- Writes great articles but loves to stir up controversy, and has nothing but his opinion on this.
in one corner. Against

Miller family-- Were there and all reports have them attempting to talk him out of it.
Sloan-- Was there and is saying the same thing as the Millers'
Koc-- Was there.
Deron-- Was a part of this if not in the ending meetings.
Phil Johnson-- Was there and has not denied the story.

How is anybody in Malone's corner on this one and not just laughing at him as a moron?

Interesting how totally opposite Malone and Stockton were, and apparently still are. Always a BIG Stockton fan, much less so on Malone. When Malone signed with the Lakers when he coulda stayed here... No loyalty; I was done with Malone after that!

Honestly I do not see it that way. He knew he was done with his career basically. He wanted one final shot at a ring. He knew that he would never get it Utah. Guy stayed with the Jazz thru thick and thin for over a decade.

Now however he offers no benefit for his offcourt problems.

No, Malone going to the lakers was a total sell-out, as far as I was concerned.
He always talked about hating the Lakers, he told off Byron Scott for having "coattails" championships. He blasted "Knuckleheads" for changing teams when things didn't suit them.

I totally rooted against the Lakers that year. It was quite satisfying to watch them crumble in the finals like they did.
