About 15X more gun related children death and accidents in USA then in rest of the world. Are you telling it is only idiots to blame? Don't you think that if instead of 88% of household in USA having guns it would come down to 3-5% - that number would be much much lower despite the many idiots who live in USA? Come man, it is simple math. No guns - no gun related accidental deaths or injuries.

Stop reading what you want me to say and read what I did say.

I never used words such as "only" or "always". But yes children's deaths from guns are usually the result of someone being irresponsible, criminal, negligent or simply making a dumb mistake with guns.

No cars, no car related deaths.

Preach all you want. But my right to own a gun is not determined by someone else's actions. You disagree, obviously, and that is fine. But that doesn't really matter either.

That doesn't mean that changes are not needed. But that has been gone over in depth on here.

My kids have gone shooting with me and other family members multiple times. They know what guns are and what they can do. That they are NOT toys. Then my guns are secured in a safe that only my wife and I know the code to. They back up keys are on my key chain that is on my person or by my side 24/7.

Also, this is all fantastic stuff and im very happy that you are practicing these safe habits..... But im going to assume you are a human. I have yet to meet a perfect human that does things correctly 100% of the time. Even you could make a mistake one day and leave a gun out or not locked up properly. I know you are thinking you would never do that and that it won't happen to you.
I guarantee others have felt the same way and yet a mistake or accident still has happened.

Also, I have hunted grouse, chuckers, pheasant, rabbit, doves, ducks and geese, and deer to name a few. Grew up hunting with my dad and two older brothers (and sometimes cousins). All of us are well trained, very responsible firearm owners and hunters. I have nearly been shot before. More than once in fact.

Could I make a stupid mistake? Of course I could. I am, like you said, human. But let's not pretend that the way I do things is how it is done across the country by everyone.

We all know plenty of people that are much freer and less responsible with their firearms.

Good post except statistically your kids are in more danger with you having a gun in your home than not having a gun in your home. So if you really care about your kids then maybe you should not have any guns

There can always be a situation where even with multiple guns you will get killed if somebody stronger, bigger, with bigger gun or better shooting skills will come into your house - because of the stupid laws you have who allow anybody to have guns.
Chances of that happening in Japan is 0.01%. I would take that number anyday over right of having gun.

In my 38 years I have never needed a gun either and grew up in and still live kearns. (Thought of as one of the more dangerous areas in utah)

Sometimes you can teach your kids about guns and still have accidents happen. Kids sometimes make mistakes even when they have been taught about something right?

I mean hell, I know how to chew food and have been doing it all my life yet sometimes I still bite my tongue.
I am very good at walking up and down stairs and have all kinds of know how, training, and knowledge on the subject yet still occasionally stumble.

Also, even if your child never has an accident with your gun and has perfect knowledge and training with guns, that only aids them in using them for suicide if they (God forbid) ever get to that emotional/depressed point.


It's not only kids with irresponsible gun owners for parents that die from guns. I guarantee you that

accidents will always happen, i had plnty of guns laying around the house, never had 1 accident with gun.
what i can tell you is i was almost burned to death by playing with gasoline and fire. my right leg was filled with 2nd and 3rd degree burns.
had an accident with a motorcycle, wasnt my aprents but a family friend stored in in garage i took the kee and thought it was easy enough to ride, almost died.

so yeah accidents will always ALWAYS ALWAYS happen. i did not die. but there are plenty of things that could kill kids. there are examples of it all over the world.

if your criteria for banning guns is kid related deads. we should ban pools.

1.unintentional drowning
2.unintentional moving vehicle traffic death.
3.unspecified homocide
and at number 9 is homicide firearm

age group 5-9
1. unintentional mv traffic
2 unintentional drowning
3.unintentional fire/burn
4. homicide firearm

and at number 8 unintentional firearms/

I was simply pointing out that having guns in your home puts you and your family in more danger than not having guns in your home. The chances of you stopping a criminal in your home from hurting your family is lower than the chance of you or a family member hurting themselves with your guns
