A criminal breaks into your house, no guns involved whatsoever, and takes the chance that you let the criminal walk without testifying, identifying, calling the police, & chasing him down the street with a garden hoe?

I put up a go pro at a walmart (srs).

I left two of my vehicles (for funsies).

I left my escalade and my desert truck.

My eacalade was locked and my other was open.
In four days and nights my eacalade was looked into and 7 times, the door tried 3 times.
In four days my excursion (which is badass) was not even approached, no one tried to look into the truck, no tries at the door.

Pick it apart, but that small trial told me that Villians look for easy, non-combative, targets.
Do I think that my jacked up truck with NRA stickers and "molon Labe" was a deterrent? U betcha.

a law did not stop any of the mass shooting. most mass shooters broken several laws.
