The question is simple - can we get those 2nd and 3rd offensive options to go with Gobert and Mitchell? If we can't get another really good offensive player without trading Gobert, then you trade Gobert. He is the only ++ asset we have.

Think about it - to get a great player like Kemba or Middleton, we have to release Favors who has been a solid player. What if we were to keep Favors, sign Kemba/Middleton and then trade Gobert for another really good player?

I don't think Rudy will be on the table, but maybe he should. If he is a max guy in a couple years, that contract could be catastrophic.

Because unless you're dumping Gobert for like 1/4 of the salary what you're saying isn't possible.
 
Dennis Lindsey really has his work cut out for him. We aren't even close to being able to compete with the two best teams in the west, they're just on a whole different level than us.

Without Favors and the other expirings, we can make around $33 million in cap room. Gobert makes $8 more than Favors. We can definitely make it work. It can be done.

I haven't even gotten into the targets yet, but as long as we don't trade for a player making $20+, we could sign a player making $25+ and keep Favors and have that value Gobert got us.

But you're saying you want to keep Favors which is why you'd need to trade Gobert to a team with

A) Capspace to absorb his contract since the Jazz don't want equal salary back
B) Has a valuable "3rd piece" asset for your plan, likely has to be on a rookie deal
C) Has to make sense for both sides

...and the way you initially worded it was to do this trade *after* you signed Kemba or Middleton which would literally be impossible if you're keeping Favors.

Let alone all of the reasons both on and off the court why trading away a franchise C in his prime who wants to be in Utah would be a horrible move for the Jazz organisation.

It's just a horrible idea all round I'm sorry.

I’d add Portland and probably OKC at this point. I think Portland’s shooting and Aminu’s/Harkless’s defense would be killing us too. And OKC is better than we are. You could argue the top 3 teams in the east are better than we are. I don’t see us beating Toronto or Milwaukee. Maybe the dysfunctional 76ers?

I don't see Gobert just walking away when he becomes a FA, he comes through as a loyal player, unlike Hayward with whom the FO should have seen the signs from miles away, he barely had any good words for Utah. I had wanted him gone for a long time.

Oh, the entire idea is bold and difficult, but bold and difficult moves are sometimes necessary.

I don't want to trade Gobert. But I want to win a title and keep Mitchell long term more than my affinity for Rudy.

But we aren't gonna trade Gobert. We won't even look at it. We probably won't even let Favors walk so we can pursue max free agent type guys. We will keep Favors and do our best with the $16 million we have left if we even decide to let Rubio, Thabo, Udoh and guys like that walk.
